Josh's Frogs - Bad Experiences

Few months ago I purchased 10 producing fruit fly cultures and 10 days later only 2 containers were hatching. After sending pictures of the unhatched containers I was told it appeared they had been shaken during shipment, moist media covered the sides of the containers and eggs. They did send me replacements which produced.

Recently a friend ordered producing fruit flies from them and is now going through the same problem. His original cultures and the replacements are not going to produce because the media is covering all of the eggs.

Everyone else having this issue? These just can't be isolated incidences.

Unfortunately this is an issue with shipping prepared fruit fly culture, especially in the summer. It is not an issue isolated to any particular company. Your best bet would be to get one culture going and use it to get several others going so you do not need to have an active liquid culture shipped. It is relatively cheap to do on your own and you'll even save money.

I ordered dubia, BSFL and Blue bottle fly larvae.

The dubia were fine. I wasn't sure if my guy would like BBF or BSF so I only ordered a 50 count of each.

If the blue bottle fly laruve only 4 turned into flies.

None of bSFL turned in to flies

I ordered 50 BBF and forgot about them, all 50 hatched in the 3oz cup they came in and were in there at least a few days before I realized I had ordered them (first time owner and ordered a bunch of stuff at the same time).

From the number of emails they send and the depth of detail they go into for each product and even employee I would have to say that they care about what they are doing and everyone knows that if you have a good experience you generally won't go posting about it but if you have a bad one then you want to tell the world.
I'm picky and was satisfied with the experience with what I ordered.

I'm not going to lie I think they're one of the best companies out there for herp needs.

I have a biweekly subscription for 2000 crickets at a time and get all my other feeders and supplements there. Customer service has always been awesome and so have the products.

FWIW, the fruit fly issue described above should be taken up with the shipping company not Josh's. All the boxes I ever got from them said "this side up" but I don't think for a second any shipper abides by that.

Oh! And idk why they didn't recommend this but those cultures can be saved by adding new excelsior or even toilet paper rolls or note cards to the cups. Any dry surface for the larvae to pupate on will salvage productivity. It's not the eggs that didn't make it, they can't turn into flies without a dry surface to pupate on. You can also try scraping the food back down with a plastic spoon.

Just some tips in case you are currently dealing with that issue, don't toss them just yet.

I had a bad experience with them but it was with my mail lady . She wouldn't read the box all 4 sides showed Arrows pointing up and she would hand me the box upside down. She said after I told her about the arrows... that they don't pay attention to that stuff . I made a phone call to the post office out of Columbus and they told me the same thing. I was pissed off and told them if I wrote the word Bomb on the box..I bet you read that! right.LOL after I said that I wouldn't be surprised if I'm on the their list of people to watch . lOL
