I've already been using LED spots, to grow plants, before finding Todd's lights, but the spectral quality and output of his bulbs are far superior to the ones in box stores.

The higher they are raised off the screen, the wider and more spread out the light will be. These impressed me by being able to project light at a useable amount, over 4' away.
I'd personally love to see these replace modern UVB options, especially for shade loving species, but for ambient plant lighting, these are excellent.

I am pretty sure that Leds cant produce UVB .

I am very proud of these.
And they really do represent allot of work and trial and error.
There were at least 5 designs over the past 5 years that went before hitting the nail ON THE HEAD with these bad boys.
It is a good example of "at first you don't succeed.. try try again .. and again and again. ha ha."
They use specially graded extra high CRI diodes and are custom made.

They are even brighter than they look in the video, it doesn't quite do them justice.

I even use them on plants in my house.

So do you not make the old iterations anymore then? the bars? I see a lot of good things about the bars and my cage arrangement doesn't allow these spots (plus they are pretty high wattage lol). I really need one of those 44 inch bars.

They don't now, but we can send people to the moon, so this seems a small feat by comparison. It's all about demand and priorities.

Yes, it is exciting to think at some point, there will be LED lights that can do UVB correctly.
But that still is a while off.
I have personally been working and experimenting with that.
And it is very challenging.
That's all I can say at the moment.
However, I do predict that some day LightYourReptiles.com will have an "Enhanced" Jungle Dawn® LED that can produce UVB and UVA rays.... and you can bet it will be awesome.

But it is something that is still VERY cost prohibitive and not practical to manufacture at this point in time.
I will keep folks posted of course if there are any major breakthroughs in that area.

Addendum,
yes ...
and before people start going on about it...

there are LEDs that can produce UVB. They use them for curing lamps.

A "slice" of UVB spectrum in a light source is NOT the same as creating a proper full spectrum light with ALL the bands of UVB and UBA in the light that comes close to matching natural sunlight.

I cringe when I think that somebody sooner or later is going to market an LED product with a few UVB diodes stuck in it....
and they will be marketing it to sucker (repeat: SUCKER) people into buying it by playing on the LED hype.

There already was a LED light out there in the market that said it "provided safe UV for reptiles."
It was / is a total sucker product.
It is an LED made with inexpensive UV A "black-light" diodes. (Not UVB )
So it is a half truth, The UVA is good for reptiles vision to a point.
But does nothing to synthesize vit D or prevent MBD.
You need some very specific UVB wavelengths for that.

But the sleazy characters selling these were preying on peoples lack of knowledge of UV and how it works.
People would buy this LED product thinking they are getting the latest "cutting edge LED Light" and providing their reptiles safe "UV".
But sadly, since the right wavelengths of UV B were not being provided by this "UV" LED bulb, it just ended up causing long slow death to peoples animals.
Because all the reptiles would end up getting MBD sooner or later and dying slow terrible deaths.

Anyway, it just goes to show you we all must be vigilant and do our homework for our animals sake.

ABSOLUTELY! In EVERY aspect, from caging to lighting, nutrition and medical care, breeding and beyond. Care sheets, mainstream products and accepted practices are only based on what we know now and it take free thinkers, pioneers, and fearless, knowledgeable people to move forward and create the next set of accepted standard care protocols. I never let anyone tell me what can and and can't be done, but find the information myself and create my own approaches, based on the absolutes.

Well... I am glad you asked.

When you do your free range area--
take a look at the Arcadia 14% UVB bulbs. Now.... yes... they are strong.
Too strong on an average cage.
But if you have to project the UV in feet and not inches in a large free range area these would be perfect.
You can mount the t5 fixture(s) to the ceiling and the Chams can be on plants 2 feet away and the UV will be right for a basking area.
2 feet - 3 feet is about the right minimum distance on them for Chams. (15-16" for beardies)

Hello everyone, any updates on pics of your plants using the jungle dawn? I just ordered mine and I am pretty excited to see what this light offers!! Todd is amazing and always took the time to answer all my questions. About a month went into my enclosure build and Todd helped me in every step of the way with lighting!

I'll post some later, after 10 eastern time. They are doing wonders. I have buds on my hibiscus, gardenia, and my bromeliads are coloring up better than the ones outside!

Things were only fully planted by May 30th, the bromeliads even later. The new growth is clearly evident!

It's intense, but softer, so it's a soothing light, very near nature, in the spectrums it gives off and the way it shines. Like dappled light, through a canopy. Quads aren't forest floor animals. They look be in areas with vegetation and lots of diffuse light.

I've been trimming back plants every other week or so. I even have Passion Flowers Vines going crazy. Each plant grows back new stems and etc. with each trimming. It would look great over a Gracilior! The light looks very natural and isn't to overwhelming. You won't regret getting one!
