Just a few questions

NOOBIE with a few questions

I relatively new to chameleons and i have a few questions:

1. When do veileds generally get their colors?

2. What does it mean when she curls her tail while I am holding her?

3. Should a 4 month old baby be chasing its food on the ground?

4. What is the average size for a 2-4 month old veiled female? Because she is close to two inches snout to vent.

5.Are they capable of sneezing? because she sneezed once and that is it.

Thanks,
Jevin:confused:

1. When do veileds generally get their colors? Completely depends on the chameleon. I've seen some with nice colors at 5 months old, but generally it's about the 8 month mark when they REALLY start getting their colors. (Again, it depends on the chameleon!!)

2. What does it mean when she curls her tail while I am holding her? It means she probably doesn't feel the need to grab onto something with her tail, maybe she feels safe? Pure speculation.

3. Should a 4 month old baby be chasing its food on the ground? Sure, if it's on the ground all the time. Are there any crickets at the top of the cage?

4. What is the average size for a 2-4 month old veiled female? Because she is close to two inches snout to vent. Not sure, I've only had a male, but I've seen females around.. 3-4 inches SVL? I'm sure someone who's had a female will chime in for you. (Sometimes you get a runt!)

5.Are they capable of sneezing? because she sneezed once and that is it. I know my crested geckos have sneezed from perfumes, candles, etc.. however I am not entirely sure a chameleon is capable of sneezing. Perhaps it's time to get rid of the Axe/Victoria's Secret when the chameleon is out. ;)

I'll add a little to the previous answers.

3. Probably will if the food is on the ground. They're basically eating and pooing machines at that age and will go where the food is. It's not bad if you keep the cage real clean, but you really don't want them down there with the poo too much. Try getting the food to climb up the sides of the screen.

4. Depends on the individual. Like Syn said, there are big ones and there are runts. As long as they're eating and cruising around, they're fine.

5. Yes they sneeze. Shouldn't be doing it too much, could be a sign of respiratory infection. Make sure there's proper drainage for the misting/dripper.

Yeah well im a guy fyi and she is bigger than some of the males that were talked about that are older also i have another 2 question.

Do they need a yearly vet checkup or something like that?

Why is it that i will be holding her and she all of a sudden will go into Mach 1 without any change in colour or breathing and then when i go to return her to her cage she will spend half a century getting off my hand?

Will get photos of her up tomorrow.

It is advisable for you to do so.
also test the fecal matter for any indication of parasites.
and, I don't understand your 2nd question

Welcome to the forum.

You ight just be lucky and have a chameleon that likes being out of the cage. My girl is like that, hates going in (I have to use two hands to get her in). As for the mach 1, dunno?

She starts to almost run, starts to walk extremely fast but then stops as soon as i move toward her cage

English still not so clear.
So you mean if you are watching her she does not move? This is normal behavior, alot of chameleons seem to start moving as soon as you break eye contact or leave the room.

No its when i go to put her back into her cage that she decides she should take her time with getting off my hand.

Same here from what i have read i do know that she isnt stressed often by handling
