Hey guys, today I was trying to candle my almost 9 month old eggs and while looking at one I tried to shift my fingers to get a better view and I dropped the egg. :( It broke and the little guy inside gulped a couple of times and then blinked and then he was dead. He still had a pretty large yolk sack attached but he was big. I measured him about an inch from head to base of the tail and the tail is probably another inch. He seems pretty much fully developed. Any idea how long until he would have hatched? Maybe I can at least figure out how long until the others hatch.

That sucks man...shit hapens. With a yolk sack that big I'd GUESS they have something like 2-3 months left, right??? Anyone know any better?

One of the other eggs hatched today. :D It was actually quite a bit smaller than the one I dropped. I almost didn't believe it when I saw it.

Perhaps out of curiosity, to see how they are doing, if they are getting bigger or not.

I've never needed to pick a lizard or turtle egg up to candle it...I just shine a fine beam through the end of the egg and it will show you all you need to knpw without disturbing the egg or risking that happening.

Sorry you had a hard learning experience. :(

I second Kinyona
Mini mag lights with the light focused broadly (so your not blasting each egg with a direct beam of light) is enough to get the eggs to "glow" to see the eggs progression.

I was just curious. It had been almost 9 months and I was beginning to wonder if they were still any good. I am new to this hatching thing.

The baby is doing well and my 6 year old son has named her Lexi. Not that we will be able to tell which one she is when the others hatch. I did notice one of the other eggs seem to have a slit in it so maybe another is on it's way.

I do have one question. Some of the eggs in another container have brown splotches on them. They are all larger and the splotches have only appeared recently. Is that normal?
