Just for fun

Thank you!! It’s an African Violet. I looked it up on a list a couple of years ago and it was noted as safe. She loves them and we haven’t had any issues:)

I wasn't questioning if it was safe. I was certain you did research on it. I was asking cause it is so beautiful!! I love those little flowers.

They are so beautiful! It’s nice because these little plants are relatively easy to find where I am so when she has eaten most of her foliage and her cage is looking but too bare, I know I will probably be able to find one of these for her:)

I haven’t seen other poster show pics of African Violets here so I was just wondering fully whether they were fully approved or not... and hoped so:)

I can't say I have any knowledge on them, I don't even know that I've seen them before.
But they would add a lot of appeal to an enclosure with that pop of color!!

So they are not considered Veiled safe.... The only flowering plant that is considered veiled safe are hibiscus. There are many plants that are not considered Veiled safe... They may not produce an immediate reaction but no one knows about long term effects. The one thing that is good is that african violets are not known to cause any harm to cats or dogs that may eat them. So it is more of a use it at your own risk plant along with the many others that are put into veiled enclosures without being considered Veiled safe. Veiled safe plants have been used repeatedly for many years with veileds without showing any issues long term. So basically it is trial and error and will this plant or that one kill a cham or cause organ damage etc.

Thanks, Beman! All Cham plant lists are not created equal.... I trust you and am happy to stick with tried and true pothos and other things... Is there a list on the internet that you would hold the most reputable? Thanks!

The only one I trust is out of the chameleon academy site. They specify the veiled tested plants. If you were using the FLchams "safe" plant list it is actually a dog/cat list.

I have no idea but found these little clips.
Not me:
"Is it OK to eat a violet flower?
Both the leaves and blossoms are edible, either raw or cooked, and are extremely high in vitamin C. The flowers are a wonderful late winter or early spring treat and are often made into violet jelly or violet syrup. "

How poisonous are African violets?

African violets are not poisonous, but it has some toxicity. This potential toxicity can happen because of improper use of plants and higher consumption.

The composition of African violets includes substances like saponins, salicylates acid, which are slightly toxic"

Just sharing, I have no opinion.
Beautiful Chameleon and plant. (y)

African violets are perfectly safe for reptiles, are wonderful additions to enclosures (until they get eaten 🤗), and come in a wide variety of colors when blooming (they really love our Sansi lights).
In fact, I haven't found anything that says they're not.

They're safe for tortoises, or my Missus wouldn't chance them.

In fact, they're safe to feed as part of their diets.

They're safe for bearded dragons (I had one in my beardie enclosure until he ate it).

And they're safe for chameleons.

Thanks for the info and input, Klyde O’Scope! It makes me
feel better as I had thought they were OK, but wouldn’t want to take a chance if they weren’t.

I know a cham who will also be very pleased:)
