Just found out my veiled chameleon has coccidaia!

Yeah I been soaking him and giving him some out of a syringe as much as he can he doesn't really like drinking I was thinking of giving Pedialyte and water 50/50 mix out a eye dropper see how that works

Print this out and take it to your vet and tell him how dangerous it is to give a chameleon Albon. Most vets have very little chameleon knowledge. Albon might be ok for snakes and other lizards but not for chameleons.

Before Ponazuril I gave my veiled Luie Albon 3 days and he stopped eating and was looking very weak. I stopped the Albon and ordered a pigeon drug alpertrex from The UK and he recovered and did fine on that. Since the Ponazuril came out I have used nothing but that and everyone had done fine. I have read on here many times where chameleons died after taking Albon.

For fuzzy animals (dogs and cats) Albon is usually much more well tolerated than Marquis Paste (Ponazuril), and it has a higher effectiveness, probably because a 10 day to 21 day treatment time gives the owners more time to clean up, which keeps reinfection from reoccurring after. An old school vet will usually take that route for coccidia first, since it's got a great tract record - in mammals.

Like jannb suggested, just talk with him about why it doesn't work the same way with reptiles and why yours should not be on it. :) The less often they see a species, the less up to date they'll be with medications and suggested treatments.

My vets recommend Ponazuril for 3 days in a row and wait two weeks and then give for 3 more days and then wait two weeks and then do a fecal. Also Ponazuril is a compound drug that has to come from a compound pharmacy. My vets use Diamondback in AZ.

It's a common horse drug sold under the name Marquis Paste - at the shelter I worked at we would dose out cat and dog sized amounts from the tube under veterinary supervision. It was a really small amount though, so for a really tiny animal it would need to be diluted or compounded to be safe. The volunteers and staff were never really a fan of it - the animals never kept it down and so it never really did what it was supposed to.

yea I ordered reptaid so I guess I'm going to give him a little of that when it gets here. I tried talking to him about it and he didn't really want to hear it. I'm not sure what I can do. I'm on house arrest at the moment and there is no other reptile vet around me. I'm going to try and see if I can find another around me again. he actually is starting to look good. it has takin me a month to get him this far. Its not the meds I wanted. I wanted to get the ponazuril. Guess
ill have to try and find a new vet
