just got my first chameleon!!! =]

Hey guys I am new to the site and just got my first ever chameleon about a week ago. He is a 9 month old veiled chameleon. Hes pretty cage aggressive but it is shocking how tame and friendly he is outside his enclosure complete 180. My family and friends think he is the coolest thing ever. Feeding time is a show in my house lol just wanted to post some pics of my new guy and share my excitement with you all! =]

hiya and welcome :)
congrats on your handsome boy.many chams are cage territorial.maybe you should try leaving his cage door open and pop a plant outside for him to come out on.this method has made many cage aggressive chams less aggressive and more calm.

Thank you for ur comments! And I will look into making a free range extended area for him to climb out to :)

He is still settling in after only one week. The more you feed him and mist his cage, the more he will become used to you. He still looks a little pissed on your desk. He will basically flatten his body out to look bigger and display bright or very dark colors when he is mad. Just bc he isn't hissing at you doesn't mean he isn't stressed out or pissed off. I would recommend leaving him in his cage for another week or two so that he can properly settle into his new enclosure. Take it slow and build that trust. Veileds (especially males) tend to be more on the aggressive side but if you put in enough time and effort these guys can warm up to you. But keep in mind that some never do. You just want to make sure you aren't putting him under any undue stress. Never try to grab him out if his cage unless it is an emergency. But I would suggest using a stick for him to climb onto if you absolutely have to get him out. And if you need any other basic husbandry tips there are care sheets for veiled chams linked on this site. Good luck with your Cham and continue to post any questions or concerns! And also...he might be a she. I don't see any spurs on his back legs but the pictures might not be at the right angle. He should have "bumps" on the back of his hind legs if he is a male.

I don't see any spur either. But I thought for some reason females had a different pattern as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
 
It's probably just the angle of the picture as far as the spurs. The markings are 100% male. They are pretty distinct. I have only seen one Veild on here whose markings were similar to a male and was actually a female. With that being, said if you want to post a pic of the back of the back feet we could check it out for you. So I want to say welcome to the forums and to chameleon ownership! You have come to the right place to share your love for chameleons! We are all a little cham crazy around here!:D P.S. I think I see a spur in the 1st and 3rd picture.
 
I see spurs--And the marking (just like ^ said) are 100% male.. Usually females have more "splotchy" stripes and dots.

He looks like he is enjoying his new home :) Good luck
 
Thanks guys for the responses. I will give him a little more Time to settle in. Last night before posting my gf and I handled him for about an hour and he was very nice, near the end he started to hiss a little but besides that he was pretty good. Its just inside his cage he is hell... and he is def a male. If u see in the fourth pic his spur Is on the white part of the stick. =]
 
Well he sure is handsome. I'm saying he because everyone else says so lol I have no idea whether he is or not! since your new, how's your knowledge on supplementation of calcuim with and without d3 and multivitamin? As well as gut loading feeders? Also, what's your set up like? I don't own a veiled, I'm a jackson mommy, and soon to be panther mommy. Post a pic of your enclosure and these veiled owners will give input that is helpful on perfecting his home! Congrats on such a beautiful boy and welcome to the forums! Such a great place to be for Cham owners! ESPECIALLY new ones!
 
Hes my first cham but definitely not my first reptile lol I know all about calcium and vitamins. He is in a 4x2x2 with a 95 degree basking and a long tube uvb. Also has 5 large exo terra jungle vines and a large bush schefflera.
 
Here is his cage. Ive tweaked it a little and added a couple more vines since this pic. And thank u for all ur kind words and comments.

I would raise the plants so they are higher up. You can do this by taking another pot or even a small bucket and turning it upside down and then setting the plant on that. Other than that, it looks very nice!

Awesome! So your new, but not really ;) I love your schefflera ! Scheffs are my faves! Mine grow soooo fast! I'm constantly having to trim it back! Do you have a drip system?

95 is a little too hot. You don't need to be above the upper 80's. And yes like iguanas and other reptiles they do need calcium but I don't know if you are aware that chams need calcium WITHOUT D3. You may know this already but I just want to make sure so you don't give him cal with D3
