Hi,

My veiled laid 86 (infertile) eggs a couple of days ago.
She was obviously exhausted and has access to plenty of water and food (hoppers & crickets). I have seen her eat once but not drink - although I am not there all day. She is quite active and moves around quite a bit.
She is a good colour and seems to be recovering well. Is there anything special I should be doing other than food, water and general monitoring?

I would cut the heat down to 82 and drop her food intake. She won't make it to long laying that many eggs. Not very good for her.

How do you mean "won't make it too long"?
This is her first clutch - she is only 9 (ish) months old. She seems active and I've seen her feed since laying. I've read elsewhere that chameleons can have clutches of 70 or 80 eggs.

Yes they can but it is not good for them. I heard if you cut back on how much they eat (every other day) it reduces the amount of eggs they produce. Females generally have a shorter life span than males because they lay eggs.

This is absolutely imperative when keeping females in my opinion. I reduce feeding to every other day, reduce amount fed at one time to about 60% (about 8 medium crickets), and lower the basking temp to about 83 degrees when my females turn 6 months old. My average clutch size is about 30 eggs, but I've had females lay up to 50 eggs if they are even slightly over fed. It really takes a toll on them.

I have some eggs that my Cham just laid and they are sinking in in little sections but they are in the incubator with plenty of water

You're sure they're fertile? How long have they been in the incubator? What temp, type of substrate, ratio of water to substrate etc? It's common for eggs to sweat and sink in just before hatching but that takes months for most species.

I have a veiled and I got her with a male a week and a half ago (approximately) from some people who didn't provide a nest box and they were in the same cage and she was fat and was always on the ground and I separated them but I put the egg bin in her cage but she laid them on the ground in random spots around the cage and she is still laying but for now there are only 8 so I put them in the incubator and they are sinking but I thought she was egg bound so i only have Eco earth dirt
