Hey so this is my new flapneck cham and his cage set up. (im picking a name bwteen pop tart, sampson or finn) u can help me with his name to! he worried me he didnt poop for a week or more but finally did this morning! i started sprayin his cage down more yesterday i think he likes it. So my question on the temp, up by the palm tree lookin thing its 94ish which i know is fine for his basking spot. he has been spending alot of time in the leaves now, he does funny positions to try and blend in with them he does a great job. But the temp down there is round 68 to 70 i was wondering if thats ok for him. was curious if i needed another light to try and get it up to 80ish or something. lemme know!

Handling - take him out 2 or 3 times a day. yesterday tried to but he didnt want to lol

Feeding - I buy crickets from a store he gut loads them and puts calcium on them for me. i give him 7 or 8 every other day. i also feed them sweet potatoes though. the guy at the store used to only feed him 4 a day. i also just purchased bug burger so im waiting for that as the gut load. (btw anyone use this and/or like the product?)

Supplements - not sure, shop owner does it. im gonna purchase some multi vitamin soon to as well

Watering - I have a dripper i do about 3 times a day as well as spray the cage 3 times daily

Fecal Description - Not sure hes only pooped few times. i remember i looked it up on google images and it looked like the pictures

History - nonezo
Cage Info:

cool, i just posted it at the top. thanks for the help! i also am curious how everyone feels about bug burger, i just bought a 4 oz and was curious how long it lasts and is it good?

Nice! That should make it 100x easier for members to answer your questions and go over your set up. So far you're in the right direction.

As for feeder insects, variety is key! Even with what you feed them haha.

Here's a great blog that goes over "gutloading" this is a must for chams so read up on it.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html

Bug Burger is a great source for a "dry" gutload. I use Dino Fuel, Bug Burger, and Cricket Crack. Some members even make their own.

so what your sayin is to use bug burger with cricket crack or other food supplies?
Usually what i do is sprinkle some over my wet gutload and put a little mound by itself so my crickets can have a choice.

As for variety, I meant switch up the dry gutload. So one week use cricket crack, another use bug burger, etc. Sometimes I use both. It's just always good to switch things up and provide a bunch of variety for your feeder insects/cham.

Just remember whatever your feeders eat, your cham eats too.

The cage could use some branches that go laterally from side to side. Most of your vegetation is near the bottom. Chameleons like to climb as high as they can to feel safe. Other than that looks good, and yes bug burger and cricket crack are good products.

yea when i get a few more bucks im gonna buy some more vines. I also just started to feed him meal worms he just ate one outta my hand so i think hes starting to get more comfy around me. but yea ill try out the cricket crack and bug burger.

Hey,

You really should buy your own supplements. Buying from the store everyday will get expensive, bulk buying (although annoying me very greatly right now) is the best for finances.

What supplements does he use? Powder will only last for so long, so unless you feed off right away most of it rubs off. Buying your own is pretty cheap, they last for months and you can guarantee you're chameleon is getting the supplements.

You need three types, Calcium NO d3 every feeding, Calcium WITH d3 twice a month and Multivitamin twice a month. I do the W/ D3 and Vitamin on alternating Sundays.

Well its actually a good deal. i pay 1 dollar for 15 crickets and he puts powder on them. i still see the calcium on them after 2 to 4 days. i usually buy 16 and that will feed him for 4 days. but im pretty sure he uses a zoo med calcium but im not quite sure, ill find out tomorrow when i buy more. alot of people told me not to use the d3 but i do need to get multi vitamin, wut kind do you reccomend? and im super broke rite now sooooo i mite have to just use the store owners supplements til i get some cash money! and i like the tambark its kinda bigger pieces so im not worried about him eating it, helps maintain humidity. hes rarely on the ground anyways

It would be great if you could measure the cage so dimensions can be known. i would reccomend at least a 36 inch high 18 inch ddep and wide cage.

I would take the bark of the bottom as it can easily be ingested when he picks off feeder prey.

You need allot more plants and vines. Live plants such as ficus and umbrella plant are good, as is hibiscus and pothos. They hold water well.

I would spray two to three times a day.

Variety is key with feeders. Try to only give the white mealworms as these are easily digestable compared to the brown ones. Super worms will be a better choice. Crickets roaches and silkworms are all good as feeders too.

You need to be using calcium on every feed, calcium with d3 twice a month and a multivit twice a month.

Makes sense, I agree. You do need to know about the D3 level in the powder, and is the dust left in the bag with the crickets then? I don't see how it would stay on for days unless the crickets can't move........
Also, more branches (make them a better fit for his little feet) and leaves would definitely make him feel more secure in there....you have lots more space he could use if you let him, also will make it easier for him to have favourite spots and to pick from a larger gradient of temps. :) Variety of feeders and gutload is the key for diet so mix it up with a few silkworms, calciworms etc. at least.

It doesn't really maintain humidity.. it more breeds bacteria and he can still swallow it. They go to the bottom when you loose the crickets. They shoot, they grab bark, they swallow, they become impacted, which means you either pay a large vet bill and they live or you pay a large vet bill and they die. Just take it out.

It can cause trouble, but it is rare - it's a risk though so make sure you keep a very close eye on him if you do keep it in. Live plants would really help with the humidity a lot more.

Well he puts them in a bag with tons of air and shakes it around and they are covered with powder i wouldnt make this up lol but it seriously stays on them they look like ghost crickets! but yea ill look into the d3 and multi vitamin for sure. im kina broke as shit so its been hard to buy more plants and vines but i will soon! i honestly do like the tambark so ill leave it for now it hasnt been a problem yet. and good to know about the meal worms with dark and light ill have to search around for them. and what does everyone use as their multi vitamin?

I know what its like to be broke! When I made my setup I had a lot of help from my roomates left over wire vines but I picked up a couple of schefflera
plants for about 3 bucks each. My cham loves to sleep at the base of them and they have been really easy to care for!
