Just making sure this is okay

Hello, I just got this guy two days ago and he’s beginning to climb on the top of the ceiling. I just want to make sure this doesn’t mean my lighting is wrong, or if anything is wrong on my part. His basking area is 80-85 range.(He’s 6 months old) Just making sure I am all good to go!

Hi There welcome to the forum. Screen climbing can be normal. They tend to stop when they are too heavy to hold on to the screen. I would be careful with where you have the basking area meeting the branch that goes all the way up to the corner. Thermal burns are a risk if they can get right on top of that bulb.

• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

Okay, thank you I just wanted to know if the linear bulb would be dangerous for him. As long he is off the heat bulb he’s okay right?

He should not stay on it long enough to pose a risk to him. Is he staying there for hours or minutes?

He only did it today for about 3 minutes then climbed back down.

Yeah its ok... If it was hours then I would say temps are off. It takes them a week or so to relax into a new cage. Give him time and do not handle him for the next week so he can adjust.

I would be cautious. There’s a very large amount of UVB coming off at the bulb level.
