Just noticed my Chameleon has a (broken leg)....maybe?!?

OK its now 7pm UK time so you have been to the vets right? How is she?? Please give us an update :)

Hey guys and gals, got back from the vets yesterday. He knew straight away that it was a break. He said as seen as he is so young that it would heal itself over time, we need to up his calcium intake, he rec some products to try and pick up that will increase his vital intake (Calcium, Vitamin's etc etc) He weighed him and gave him a nice little check over. He said apart from that leg his other limbs were perfectly fine, He looks a little thin but his poop was a normal (colour) - im allowed to spell it this way ^_^ - and that there was no signs of any other illness/discomfort.

At the moment DJ is moving a lot more freely in his Viv, his eaten loads this afternoon and again drunk a nice amount of liquid, both contained a decent amount of calcium powder, the vet rec that we put a small amount of calcium into his water and use a syringe (without the needle) to drip drink him aswell as misting him. He looks really good so im really pleased. Ive attached a small amount of fishing line to his plant to hold it up (lucky I did) as I walked in this morning from work (working nights atm) and his plant was hanging there:mad: with him asleep on it (another leg saved)

Just want to thank you all for your decent advice. Great people to ask if I have anymore concerns.:)

Thank you for the update! It is good to know that there wasn't anything else going on. My Ethel broke her leg sometime before we got her (2 months old) and it has healed nicely. There is a lump on her leg, but nothing else. Could have happened during transport from breeders to herp store, or in the cage with all her bros and sistas

Please be aware that phosphorous, calcium, D3 and preformed vitamin A are all players in bone health and need to be in balance. You need to look at what is in the supplements, what you feed to the insects, and what you feed to the chameleon to ensure there is a balance maintained once you get the calcium back in line.

Hey again! Well im giving the locusts and crickets chopped carrot, apple and other little bits of fruit and veg to munch on or they all die within 2weeks of buying them, so they are deffinatly gut loaded so some extent, any ideas, pointers just tell me and ill change thier diet ^_^

DJ has eaten 13 locusts today, 7 calcium covered the others plain. He is just starting to shed again, and he seems to be moving about really nicely. Not quite stable on his leg yet, but im really pleased that he has recoverd slightly.:D

Ahh thanks ^_^ Its not just me, my girlfriend helps out just as much as me and her mum aswell haha ^_^, we all love him!

And if it wasnt for you guys on here, giving sound advice the ending might have been completly different!

Hey, Long time no see haha :D:D

Just a quick reply from me......DJ is a female as I was previously calling her a male, my bad!

Anyway shes doing really well, her leg is much much better, pretty much looks normal, Also 2days ago she laid 48 (unfertile) eggs, I caught some of it on film just becasue it was amazing to watch, bearing in mind she is maybe just under a year old and proberbly mid size....just amazing!!!

Shes so lovely!!!

Just a lil update got you all, Hope all is well!!!

That's great that your cham had such a good recovery.

Have you re-done her enclosure to fix the falling plants problem? I'd be interested to see the new version.

Glad she's doing well, she's cute!

Thank you for the update and glad to hear she's doing better. It's great to read these success stories. Do check that link jannb gave you and be sure your girl gets good post-egg-laying care.

You may find this blog entry regarding gutloading of use:

Also you'll soon need a place for her to lay eggs, especially if the temperature has been high. Check out the link jannb provided.
