Just Weighed Claudia for the First Time

I went and picked up a food scale at Walmart this afternoon to start weekly weigh-ins for Claudia.

A little extra info before today's weight in numbers. The last time she was weighed was about two months ago at the vet, where she was just about 50g.

I had some trouble getting her to stay. Everything I put her in she just pulled herself right out of, so I'm going to have to do some searching for a better bowl to use for weighing. Anyway, from what I was able to gauge, she's at 102g as of today (I'll double check this once I find a more suitable bowl for her).

I also am not sure how old she is. At her vet appointment in early July, the vet could only estimate that she was between 4-6 months old, which would now mean she's anywhere from 6-8 months old. Is 102g an acceptable weight for a female veiled of that age range? She does look a little portly, but I am trying to decide if I've just been too generous with feedings or if we may have some eggs on the way or not. It's driving me nuts. My next step will be a vet appointment for an x-ray to know for sure.

When my vet weighed my Cham they used a small perch. It was made of wood dowels connected to make a box shape. Elvis just perched on it while they weighed him. He seemed comfortable because he had something to grab.

That's a good idea! I tried like four different bowls, thinking "Oh, she won't be able to climb outta this one!" But every time she'd hoist herself right on out lol. She's a strong one. I'll see if I can dig up a few branches to use. Thanks for the suggestion!

With Bumble I set his bird ladder down on the scale, 0 it out and then put him on it. He sits still long enough for the weight to measure.

That's exactly what the vet used. It worked really well.

You can also use things like a paper bag or a deli cup. I've even used shoe-box sized totes. Just remember to zero the scale out with whatever you are using to keep your cham on the scale.

I whipped this up today for our chem's first weighing (29g).

It is a chunk of manzanita screwed to a wood base with a bit of glue.

Wow, I love it! I'm definitely going to have to look around for stuff to make my own little weighing helper. Thanks to those that have given suggestions on how to weigh my girl
