does no one have a decent petstore around them?
all i hear are horror stories.
i understand the issues with chain stores. i think we all do.
there are 2 pet stores near me that arent corporate.
one of which i worked at for about a month maybe it was three idk i was the fish/reptile guy. gotta say i know a lot more about fish now becuase of it. tommy the owner knew he didnt know enough and didnt pretend to know enough to keep chameleons (part of the reason he hired me) later after i quit he would ask me on occasion for chameleons but had me keep them and meet with the customer directly in the store. so i could go over the basics and make sure they were fully prepared for what they would be getting themselves into.
for as money grubbing as the guy is the fact that he used me as a breeder/consultant. and didnt ask to keep any of the animals in store for display reasons was VERY responsible of him.
the other one a bit further away has an actual room dedicated to reptiles. they have a few people that work the reptile room only one of which is competent (in regards to cham husbandry). and rather than giving poor information on chameleon care if you want a cham you have to talk to him first. ive made a lot of trade and sales to that guy. i have however nagged him on a couple of occasions about housing pairs together. his excuse always being, im trying to breed them.
he usually listens when i yell at him.
so i get why chain stores dont give a crap but it seems like more private businesses should be concerned with their reputation....
