Just wish people would do more research

does no one have a decent petstore around them?

all i hear are horror stories.

i understand the issues with chain stores. i think we all do.

there are 2 pet stores near me that arent corporate.

one of which i worked at for about a month maybe it was three idk i was the fish/reptile guy. gotta say i know a lot more about fish now becuase of it. tommy the owner knew he didnt know enough and didnt pretend to know enough to keep chameleons (part of the reason he hired me) later after i quit he would ask me on occasion for chameleons but had me keep them and meet with the customer directly in the store. so i could go over the basics and make sure they were fully prepared for what they would be getting themselves into.

for as money grubbing as the guy is the fact that he used me as a breeder/consultant. and didnt ask to keep any of the animals in store for display reasons was VERY responsible of him.

the other one a bit further away has an actual room dedicated to reptiles. they have a few people that work the reptile room only one of which is competent (in regards to cham husbandry). and rather than giving poor information on chameleon care if you want a cham you have to talk to him first. ive made a lot of trade and sales to that guy. i have however nagged him on a couple of occasions about housing pairs together. his excuse always being, im trying to breed them.

he usually listens when i yell at him.

so i get why chain stores dont give a crap but it seems like more private businesses should be concerned with their reputation....

Like I said earlier on the reason I joined the forums was to help people and to learn stuff my self I have been nothing but nice to people on here and I haven't said it was anybody's fault so how can u say be nice it wasn't a nasty thread just to be clear to anybody who is saying be nice.

I don't think anyone is saying be nice in particular to you... I think they are just saying be nice when others feel frustration about people not taking the opportunity not to learn when there are sources to learn from out there. You are dong a great thing by learning first and it is appreciated by many experienced keepers. Keep reading and you will see many horrible stories. But keep learning from their mistakes as well. By the way Welcome to the Forum!:)

Ok, so, we have lots of knowledgable people on here.... I need some advice.

let me know how to make this work out the best...

I am going to keep my Ambilobe in the cage by himself then I am going to feed him little pygmy chams and small baby female chams (obviously because the females are cheaper) He may not be receptive to this at first but I will trick him by gluing the little chams to big crickets... This way he will get used to the taste of chameleons.
The reason for this is so that my Ambelobe will absorbe all of the other chameleons chameleon power (like on Jet Li's "The One") Once he has trippled in size and speed, I am going to use him to start chameleon cage fighting.

Anyone that wants to build a super cham to combat mine, let me know. Mine is going to be called Artey, the chameleon luchadore. :p

ROFLMAO

on another note: when someone here says 'be nice' they don't mean you haven't been, just that niceness will always serve more than finger pointing, and it ALWAYS is better.

With that warning...like an above poster, there is a lot of less good info out there, and the info can change and be updated, outdated or simply misinformed. I know someone who said that they used to 'get chameleons for Christmas every year'. I'm betting they were getting anoles, and that their parents thought these critters could only live for a year.

Meanwhile, we get educated, we educate in turn, and we should be open to new information at all times.

Submitted for your approval,
