Juvy Ambilobe's color

I have a blue barred Ambilobe cham that is right at 4 months old. I am very new to cham's and I am wandering about his coloration's. I have seen other ambilobes his age that are sporting all sorts of reds, greens, blues, and such. My guy is mostly green, with a little blue. When he puffs up he has a little bit of red on his stomach and chin. When he is sunning or just chilling he is a dark brown with bright white stripe down each side.

When I look around the forums, my cham looks more like a nosy be or the 5 month old Faly that Chuck G has listed on the chams for sale forum.

My chams sire has a very bright red head and chin, red forearms, red tail, and blue and red/yellow bars. Very colorful chap. So, my question. How long does coloration actually take? When should I start to see colors that will be more like his sire?

he may never color up exactly like his sire. 4 months is still young. Give him another couple of months atleast to start showing some real colors or even a little longer. You just have to be patient and some are slower than others with producing their colors.

we can better help you seeing a picture, I would suggest you post one so people can see and give you input.

To answer your direct question, color takes time. You will find that most of the time colors come when shedding.

I'm new to panthers and have a 4 month old ambilobe also so this thread interests me . He doesn't have much colour yet but iv only had him 9 days and noticed after he shed that he has a little more blue on him and what looks like red baring.
I'm a complete novice but is he Def a male?

No, that's a male. Let me show you some pics of the ambilobe I used to have, to set your mind at ease. Mine took forever to sort of explode with growth too, so the size difference between photos is huge.

This is him at 5 months old:

Here he is at 6 months old (looking a lot like yours):

Here he is at 7 months old:

Here he is just a couple more months later:

So they definitely do change, you just have to give it time. But he will get better - some grow faster than others, I've never had two that grew at the same rate. But rest assured, he will grow into his colors. Perhaps in the next month or two you'll really see a difference - reds and yellows are usually the last of the colors to get really intense.
