There is nothing like a Komodo Dragon! Awesome creatures!!

You could get a close relative and go with an Asian Water Monitor. Almost as big, very smart, carnivorous, etc.

nothing will satisfy my urge and desire for the king komodo. though i would love to add an asian water monitor to my list . i would do anything and everything in my will to captivate it correctly, it is just the most beautiful thing i've personally ever seen in my life, and i have seen one in person too in chicago. gorgeous animal

they are truley beautiful. but one bite can kill you matter of fact. thats how they kill. they bite and wait for their pray to die from the infection the bite causes.

a dog is domesticated. dont get me wrong i myself have thought into buying something like this when i get older and get my own house. on the other hand when i have kids they may get eaten . just be careful if you do!

They have an amazing Komodo Dragon exhibit at the Phoenix Zoo where the barrier is just glass and you can get really close to it...they are AMAZING for sure!!! If you are ever in the area that exhibit is well worth the price of admission.

i am very well aware of how they kill, and though there is probably no vaccine strong enough to ward off the bacterial bite... amputation may be the only cure .. BUT...
CB babies, fed fresh raw meat, and never rotten (like they most do in the wild).... it seems theoretically logical that a contaminated bite would be less potent and harmful? perhaps a strong anti-botic is all it would take to get you back to health.. though i don't deny getting bit by one of these guys would be one of the most painful experiences.. it would be due to a stupid mistake on my behalf

awesome. btw, it's not the bacteria that kill a dragon's prey- they have venom akin to that of the Gila monster.

im pritty shure their not venomous. the bacteria from them would/could be compared to venom though because of how powerful it is. it kills very quickly. i think thats what you mean?

there not venomous but they're saliva is deadly toxic. there are over 2million KNOWN bacterias in the mouth and saliva of a komodo dragon along with many unknown bacterias.

there are anti-venom's that can be given to a human if bitten. not in this case.

Komodo dragons, while incredibly beautiful, demand the restrictions they receive. I feel even the more common and larger monitors species should be regulated a bit more, but alas, these would still make a better option than a Komodo.

with all due respect.. i think Brian Frey re-wrote what we already know for a nice big paycheck. i do not agree with everything N.Geo puts out, i do not agree with everything BBC puts out either. But after decades upon decades of study, some scientist wants to keep info the same, but switch up" blood poisoning' for "venom", is nothing more than a very expensive rewrite for the books.

venom is also costly and not affordable to make fluently, before it is "injected" into the blood. seen widely in snakes, scorpions and spiders.

unless you can show me the actual venom glands in the teeth or head of komodo, its only logical that the mouth is only a ses-pool of disease and bacteria, also. there could easily have been a anti-venom for bites available since study and theory have been pretty solid for the last long while, but there isnt.
