Knat issue in with crickets/roaches

I've never had this issue before. But now all of a sudden, whenever I open up my roach or cricket tubs, knats come flying out.

Heck, just two days ago I bought 2 dozen crickets for my red eyed tree frogs. I put these in a Kritter Keeper (I have a Rubbermaid tub when I get a bulk of crickets for my veiled). Within 2 days, there were tons of knats in there too.

I do leave carrots/greens in with them. I'm assuming that's the issue? But I've done this forever, and never had any issues.

Any tips/advice would be appreciated. ;)

I would suggest cleaning out all of your cricket enclosures, and feeder enclosures completely. Make sure you have no rotting ANYTHING (i.e. fruit, veggies, dead feeders) as the actual rotting is what attracts. You probably started with only a couple gnats/fruit flies and then they bred. On the other hand, you could try to find another insect that eats the flies, but not the feeders.

I'll clean them out tomorrow, but like I said, I'm not doing anything different and I never had any problems before. I have no fruit in there, just carrots and collard/mustard greens.

And no jerky motion...what do you mean by that? Lol..
