Lazarus

The other day I found a hatchling chameleon hanging from the inside of my male blue bar cage. I was like where did you come from? A left over clutch must have been in the planted pot that I never noticed. The only female that was in there for a long period of time was a N. mitsio. So on further review I took the plant out and found the clutch with a 100% hatch rate , it seems that the other hatchlings were eaten by the blue bar. At least I found one we call it Lazarus.

EWWWW Too bad you didn't notice one earlier. I just hate it when chameleons make a snack for someone, even another cham.

Man this story kills me. Im sure it kills you even more but man, it just kills me. At least you got Lazarus. Good luck with him.

I'd take the "glass is half full" approach - you didn't lose all but one of a clutch, you gained a chameleon you were never expecting! Good luck, Lazarus!

That is a crazy story! Thanks for sharing...it is sad that the guy got to the babies...but it is nature I guess...although if it happened to me I would probably be a bawling mess...I guess I am emotional :) I have an acquaintance that I know who use to breed panthers when they were dirt cheap WC's. She said that if a baby hatched that didn't look right she would feed it to the mom to give her some extra Calcium...I just sorta shock my head, no way could I ever purposely do that...but to each its own??? :( But I guess this all must happen in the wild...

I thought I would share my similar story...

I used to work at a pet store years ago where we had a pair of Veileds that would free range in a large area of plants that were high above our "aquarimum plant" displays. Nobody in the shop had any real experience keeping Chams, not even myself at that time...and they were just up there to look cool and "oooh and ahh" the customers. Well... The female disappeared one day, and we ended up selling the male. For the longest time we had no chams in the store or up in those plants at all. One day I was up on a stool wiping fish tanks and look over to my right to see a hatchling Veiled perched on a leaf looking at me. We ended up finding around 20 babies that had made it, natural hatch style high up in our plants, It caught us totally by suprise as the parents had been gone for months. Pretty fun! I got to take one home... Hence my first Chameleon.

oohhh. the mitsio babies just killed me! At least there was one survivor! Congrats on the new baby!
Socalison that is a geat story as well! Pretty cool how they hatched in the store.

Damn Joe that's a cool story! Do you still have that cham?

An excellent point of view! It's a little depressing, but you are absolutely right. Lazarus is a miracle. :)

the circle of life, lol, that was an expensive snack for your male. Did he have funny eating patterns latley?

Right on Lazarus, i guess you really can say he is the best of the bunch. Lets see a pic of the little guy.

Just curious, how many eggs were there?
