What are the pros and cons about led lights are they in anyway harmful to the eye sight of chams bc im about to build a new tank and was planning on having a led moonlight come on at dusk and shut off at dawn i know they dont need light at night but i wanted to simulate a real day

I have not seen a single person on any forum recommend "moonlight", in fact it is always recommended to not have "moonlight" every time this subject has been brought up.

Chameleons need darkness to sleep. They can detect even the red or blue lights at night and it can disturb their sleep. I have a set up with blue moon light LEDs, but they go on at dusk and only stay on for about 30 minutes, then all lights shut off for the night. I also have a quad bub set up so I can have the lights go on and off in stages to simulate sunrise and sun set.

I personally love the moonlight blue LEDs, even if they are only on for 30 minutes. And it gives the guy a little extra time to get settled in if he hasn't already. I think its more natural than lights drastically turning on and off.

Ok so i can have one for dawn and dusk ok whats the max time on each timer i was thinking 1hr max 730-830am blue light then 830 uvb light and other lights then same for bed

I feel the same way, thats why I don't discourage their use...
:)
They are so neat-O looking and I agree--
That 1/2 to say 2 hour transition time
(depending how early your main lights go out and how long you want "twilight")
gives them time to transition into "sleep mode" and settle in the foliage as they may normally do in the wild. :D

Light timers are our friends ---
and the inexpensive 5.99 - 7.99 timers from wal mart or Home Depot or Lowes work as well as any more expensive timer, even the hard to set digital ones.
The basic inexpensive timers are perfect for an LED twigh-light LED!

Cheers!

PS.
simple LED nite lites in blue and red are available as a "stand alone" add on item too..... from your favorite Arcadia dealer. ;)
stick 'em on a simple 5.99 light timer to be on just an hour +/- or so after "lights out" to create a tropical red sunset effect or a blue moon twilight effect.

Do the animals really 100% need it?
hmmm... maybe , maybe not,
but is sure is kind of a pretty effect.. especially on a planted cage!

Thank you!
Todd
