Leon’s New Tree

Leon got a new Tree it’s a Cat Palm. He loves it!!

He also had other plants in there they will probably be shifted around til I find what I’m comfortable with.

I emailed Todd from Light your reptiles and his recommendations are an

Arcadia Forest T5 6% bulb

Arcadia Jungle Dawn for the plants

Chromalux basking bulb - never heard of it but it evidently has properties to help the plant grow! Currently waiting to see if I should run that bulb in tandem with the jungle dawn or just by itself.

Currently I have a UVB bulb, Arcadia heat lamp, and a grow bulb. But they all are due to be replaced I wanted to see what his recommendations were. Will update with results.

Looks great! I’m still seeing fake plants, it’s strongly recommended, especially with veileds, to swap them out with live plants. They’re notorious for nipping on leaves and plastic can lead to serious constipation.

You’re right I have 2 of them in there and that is to help keep his little feet and mouth off the line holding his perch up. I do intend to get rid of them once his line covers so up.

Use the fake plants on the outside to fill in empty places. Does look really good
I am just going to remove them.

When Jade was in there I kept them at the bottom for the crickets to drink off of but I am feeding him different and his crickets are buttoned separately so they won’t be staying.

I just wanted to clarify... Why are you replacing the arcadia heat lamp? Heat bulbs you do not replace unless they burn out. UVB arcadia bulbs should be replaced every 12 months. Yes, you would use a 6% bulb then your distance should be 8-9 inches from the bottom of the bulb where it sits on the cage to the closest branch below it for a 3 UVI level. Per the plant lighting Jungle dawn LED bars are excellent. You do not replace those unless the unit fails.

Watch him with the cat palm... Veileds eat their plants. I have seen in the forum where they will pull these off and get them stuck in their throat. Their leaves do not chew up easily so they become a risk with a veiled.

It’s just always been a standard of mine to replace bulbs every 6 months to make sure they’re fresh and working properly for them.

I keep the bulbs as back up incase one blows unexpectedly.

He hasn’t been real into eating leaves much. But I have been watching him closely.

Thank you

His cage looks awesome! I’m glad Leon loves it! Be prepared for a boom in plant grown with the Jungle Dawn haha! They grow like crazy under that, especially if you just had a screw in plant bulb before. One think I would tweak is taking out the moss vines and replacing them with a safer option

I am definitely getting rid of them I don’t like them. Just trying to find something I like.

The other one he has is plastic. I know not ideal because it’s plastic but I know it dries out and doesn’t stay wet.

Branches, real vines, vining plants, Fluker’s Bend A Branch are all great options! You can always put in a safe option that’s temporary until you find the perfect fit!

What do you mean by that, a moss vine or a plain plastic one (sorry if I’m misunderstanding you!)?

When I got my last chameleon we got her a reptibreeze cage and it came with this plastic vine thing I kept that ditched the cage.

The moss vine I’m finding doesn’t seem to dry well, and falls apart.

As long as the texture doesn’t shed; if any debris comes off when rubbing it, misting it, etc, toss it/return it (if you test it before putting it in the cage)
