Hi so I just got my vieled a new bigger and better cage, it should be arriving within in the week. I've been using paper towels at the bottom of his current cage, when they get soiled I just replace them. It's convenient but not exactly economical, or environmentally friendly. So I wanted to see what other people are using and how/why they like it.
I have a male veiled chameleon, about 9-10 months old. Right now he just has fake plants, since he ate his hibiscus all up, so I'm trying to recover it or I'm just going to replace it. His new enclosure that's on it's way is 24x24x48.
Here's a picture of Loki as well, in the middle of his last shed, just because I think he's so handsome ;) lol

Just drill some holes in the plastic piece that goes in the bottom. Then use a large bucket or storage container to collect the water and dump it when it gets full.

It depends on what you want to do. In the past I've gone bioactive and used a mix of organic (pesticide/fertilizer free) soil, then planted moss on top and let it spread. This was for an arboreal lizard species. I topped the moss with leaf litter and a few pieces of cork bark, then seeded the soil with isopods. There were also several plants potted into the soil, and that combined with a layer of bio-balls really never allowed water to build up and become an issue.

Most recommend no substrate because they are worried the cham may ingest some either accidentally or on purpose and it could become impacted and potential cause issues for the cham Ive seen some of the best setups use real soil plants ect. so it can definitely be done and in my opinion is the most realistic option!
