Light/heating concerns

Hey Gang,

I've read alot about what bulbs work well for baby veils and I wanted to ask a question. I have a 16x16x30 screen terrarium. The set came with a 60 watt basking bulb which is the norm for most ppl (even some say 75w). Due to the cage screen top I find I lose alot of the heat beaming in. Mind you my basking area is a tad low (and all will be changed on my day off Thursday on ym day off). I find it hard to maintain an 85 C with even a 75 due to the screen. I have a 100 and a 150w to try and increase it and even with a 150 I seem to just get approx 85 according to the digi thermo that came with my set.

I've come to the conclusion thurs I'm getting another thermometer as I think this one could be faulty. Should I stick with the 150 at 85 until thursday with the thermo reading that or trust previous posts and ignore it and go with a 100? She is currently chillin in the basking area now and is a semi camo color. she was hanging near the bottom to sleep all night and only turned this color this morning after misting and such.

I absolutely don't wanna burn my buddy but also wanna make sure its the most comfy for him. I just woke up and not sure if this makes sense but any advice is welcome...lol

Thanks in advance,

Eddie

This is Lucy! The white wire is the thermo I using and I recently put it by her basking spot to monitor

The purpose of the basking bulb is to provide a place for basking not to heat the cage. Can't see your whole set up but she needs some real plants in there so she has plenty of places to hide

You need more foilage in the whole cage. Your basking spot seems quite far down from the lamp. If you put a branch about 6 inches down and attach horizonatlly under the light, you might be able to raise the temp that way by moving the branch closer to the light. As your chameleon grows, I would lower the branch accordingly, but always have alteast 6 inches between your chameleon and the light so they do not get burned. By raising the branch some, you might be able to decrease the bulb wattage also.

I posted an old pic... heres an update since I added the habiscus.

You still need to add some more branches and vines. Horizontal ones especially, where he can walk back and forth and like I said one for basking. You can securely attach the branches from the outside of the cage with pushpins going into the branch through the screen
