Light Question

I see alot of pics of peoples setups on here with their basking lamp sitting directly on top of there enclosure. I want to know how you can do that, but it not be to hot for the cham. If it is directly on top, couldnt the cham get right up next to it? I use 5-1/2" Black Clamp Lamp and ReptiSun Basking Spot Lamp bulb, and 8 inches away it is still over 100 F

1) You can use a wider dome.
2) Use a lower wattage bulb.

Sometimes all that is neded is a 45-60 watt bulb to maintain proper temperatures.
