Light Schedule!

What is your light schedule? I know that it has to be about 12 hrs day, 12 hrs night for them, but does it matter what time do I turn the light on? I have them set on at 10 am and out at 10 30 pm, it is OK? Or should I make it more natural like outside? Any thoughts? Thanks.:)

it doesn't matter very much, but do consider ambient noise/light

for example, my cage is right next to my window so when the sun rises, they get light whether or not their light is on. for this reason I have this timer set from 830AM-830PM.

on the other hand, my pygmy tanks in my bedroom get NO outside light. so I have their timers set from 1030AM-1030PM since we are typically in the bedroom with the lights on ~10PM and I didn't want to have their lights go off at 8pm only to have us turn the bedroom lights on later in the night anyway

my chammie "wakes up" when i wake up, so at about 8:30 to 9:00, on school days after my mum drops me off, she'll come back feed her and turn her lights on, so she wakes up at about the same time each morning, though some days are different then others... she goes to sleep at about 8:00 to about 9:30

Agree. Even if your lights don't come on until 10 am the general daylight in the room will wake your chams up earlier. So, their day would end up being a lot longer than 12 hours if their cage lights stay on until 10:30 pm. You may have tired stressed chams unless the room their cages are in gets NO other light (yawn!). If your chams have been asleep for a while before you are active in this room in the evenings your activity might not wake them up unless its pretty disruptive, but if your chams are still awake when you turn the room's evening lights on, you will keep them awake.

I leave at about 5am, so when I change to leave I'm very quiet and do it in partial darkness. Since I'm gone for mos of the day, Ill mist his cage and throw some ice on the top to provide humidity throughout the day. The lights are on a timer and turn on at 745am. When I get home from work at about 6, I mist him, feed / inspect. Then the lights turn off at 745. I know his days are long becuase the sun comes out at about 645 and sets at about 6, yet I feel its important to come home when his lights are on and he is awake so I can spray and feed him.

I go to bed at around 9. Before I go to bed I sneak up with a low power flash light and get one last look at Tobias sleeping with his fun colors! Sometimes I wake him up, but Oh well!

Simba's light schedule is:

7am - UV light goes on
8am - basking light goes on

7pm - basking light goes off
8pm - UV light goes off.

He's normally settling down to sleep a little while after the basking light goes off as his enclosure cools down.

He looks so cute when he's sleeping

is it strange that my cham goes to sleep around 5:00-6:00pm. i have his lights on from 8 am to 5:30pm even with the lights on later hes still asleep at the same time. i figure if hes gonna sleep with the lights on it might just stress him out, so i set my timers to that time.

ive always kept my chams in the basement. except for seasons and weather where i can keep the outdoors. (youd be surprised how ungodly hot i can get in PA) so as long as they arent effected by regular natural photo periods ie, a window. whatever schedule you choose should be just fine.

Why don't you cup feed him before you leave so he can eat when he wakes up? Do you use a dripper during the day?

I feed him enough during the night where there are 4-5 crickets left over in the cup before bed time / morning.

I don't have a dripper at the moment. I'm looking into an automated system. there are only live plants in his cage (big ficus, big coffee tree, 2 small fern things, 1 med weeping ficus) so humidity isn't an issue. I mist the cage very thoroughly in the morning, and then absolutely soak everything when i get home, and then shortly before lights go off (but not too soon as to cool him off before bed)

On another note, I was talking to someone who has a lot of knowledge on Veiled and he mentioned how they don't need *as much* humidity / misting as some other Chams.
