Lighting Problems

Hey guys im new to this page. I just recently got a Jackson Chameleon and bough a starter cage kit with him. It came with the lighting but im worried their not powerful enough. its only getting a max of 75deg. and dropping down to 68 at night. I only got him a couple few days ago so he might still be adapting but he is a real dark black/brown. Is this because hes stressed or cold? and what wattage do you recommend the bulbs to be? seems like their too weak. i live in OHIO so its about to be winter and i want to get this strait before it gets cold.
I have a 150w red heat lamp i use at night.
Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

Chamleons don't need light at night. It can keep them awake. If you need heat at night (temperatures drop below 50F,) USE A HEAT EMITTER "BULB".
For a basking light youn can use a regular white incandescent household bulb of a wattage that puts the basking temperature in the low 80'sF.

I live in Ohio too. I have a Panther and I'm new to reptiles . Yes no lights on at all at night, I do use this ceramic heater bulb it just puts out warmth But for Panthers the night temperatures can get low 60s high 50s I was told and that's ok for them . This will be his first winter in Ohio. I wouldn't recommend those double dome light fixtures either . It's nice to place the light as needed in different areas. Post some pictures we'd love to see them

Jacksons like it cooler than veiled and panthers...

They are high mountain lizards, high 50's during the day in winter, and kissing 80f on a hot summer day. Night time drops to the lower 40's are common.

Thank you everyone for the info!! this is the current temperary setup i have for him. soon to add some nice canape for him. Im thinking about adding a nicely branched live plant soon. Any thoughts on the best non toxic sturdy plant to use? Always used artificial but want to try something different. Added some sticks from the yard and the little stuff that came with the kit for now. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, he's a cutie! As for the cage he needs live plants. Needs somewhere where he can hide and feel save. Real plants help with humidity too.
