Lighting

Makes a big deal when they get key items that they need. UVB is a big one and impacts them greatly not having the correct type or distances. Good job.
i do have a question though.. can i still use my dome fixture for the basking bulb? i also still have a good uvb in the dome. would it be too much to have that one on as well?

Just take out the compact UVB bulb in the dome. You can still use the basking fixture for heat but just ensure your temps at basking are no hotter then 80. Depending on age most keepers keep babies in the 70's. And make sure it is raised off the top 3-4 inches if he is screen climbing.

Clarifying... I am talking about raising the basking fixture off the top of the screen... lol UVB you want a 9 inch drop to basking branch below the uvb if your using a single bulb T5HO fixture and a 5.0 bulb.

Can anyone put a link to some good options for lighting. I am also looking for a complete lighting recommendations. We purchased our Veiled Cham for Christmas and an exo terra 36x18x36 screen enclosure. I was recommended two dome lights, one for UVB and one for heat. I am pretty convinced we do not need to run the heat lamp at night based on others but would love your opinion. The UVB light is his basking but I thought we could do better. We have some live plants in the setup. Any recommendations would be very appreciated for a complete setup

For UVB, T5 linear bulb & fixture. Virtually all the fixtures are made by the same mfr., so shop for price. For 36"W enclosure, you'll want a 36" fixture w/ 34" bulb—either Reptisun 5.0 or Arcadia 6%.

For basking (heat) an old-fashioned household incandescent, halogen, or flood is fine. No LEDs or Spots. Any domed fixture suitable for the bulb is fine.

For lighting, I prefer LEDs, as you don't need heat. I like these Sansi Lights. They cost a bit more, but warrantied for 5 yrs. & rated for 50K hrs. so they're far more economical in the long run. They also don't contain mercury like fluorescents do.

@Beman Is that through screen or unobstructed?
This would be through 1 layer of aluminum window screen using a single bulb T5HO fixture and a 5.0 or 6% bulb. Total distance to basking would be 9 inches... If a baby screen climbs the top panel then the fixture would be raised 2 inches off the top of the cage and then the branch would be 7 inches below the screen for a total of 9 inches.

Both provide an approximate 3 UVI level. We raise the fixture for babies because it reduces the UVI level on the screen to a safer exposure level.

This UVI level/distance can change based on fixture type, number of bulbs, and the reflector used in a multi bulb fixture. As well as the material in between.
