I am preparing to get another chameleon after a long time of not having one, and i went to get a flourecent light fixture to the light to fit the 18" Reptisun 5.0 UVB buld.. I ended up buying this hood http://www.petguys.com/-097612325500.html , not realizing it wasnt setup for that buld. My question is is there a way i can make this work, or is it better for me to just take it back and get the right lighting hood for this buld? Then get an addition spotlight for the hearting bulb?

Thanks for any help!

Well i know but i think i saw regular screw in uvb bulds somewhere, could i use this hood for the uvb and the heating light?

there is no way to make the current setup work with a 18" lineal reptisun, the hood shown contains two screw in sockets intended for incandescent bulbs, there is no internal fluorescent fixture and therefore no ballast. even if you ripped the guts out and put in a fluorescent fixture (with ballast) an 18" wouldnt fit, the fixture is always going to be slightly longer than the bulb and the space in the hood would need to be longer than the fixture (which it isnt ) it will work with a screw in reptisun cfl (not recomended) because a screw in reptisun cfl has its own ballast https://www.chameleonforums.com/updated-info-cf-uvb-2931 https://www.chameleonforums.com/reptisun-5-0-help-30889/ my suggestion to you would be to buy an off the shelf combo and to actually read what you are buying

lol cfl or those screw in uvb cause blindness and cfl are fighting words on this forum lol

reptisun cfls (screw in compact fluorescent) have had a dubious past, there may be light on the horizon, but that remains to be seen, for now i will continue to stick with a lineal reptisun 5.0, if you do use a reptisun cfl ,once again, i would strongly recomend reviewing this link, https://www.chameleonforums.com/updated-info-cf-uvb-29318/ and probably most other posts on this forum
