Lights on the way

Friendly Grasshopper
so i have decided to give the arcadia bulbs a try.
i have been seeing alot of good things about them and after talking to Todd at light your reptiles i placed an order for 2 of the t5ho arcadia 12% w/fixtures.
Todd also has been working on l.e.d light bars for providing beificial plant light and uva.
i have also ordered 2 of these and will be giving them a test. i am very excited about these lights, they have 3 different l.e.d's in the 4.5k, 5.5k, 6.5k so i really hoping i dont kill so many plants LoL.
big thanks to Todd for the great service and spending the time to chat with me and anwser all my questions.

Can't wait to see how you like the T5's! I am going to give them a try soon myself. I like all the positive stuff I've been hearing also! I haven't thought about trying the LED's. I guess I need to learn more about them. Are they just as bright as the tubes?

I love my 12% t5 I have them 14" over my free range and I'm getting great reading and my chams appetite activity, colors I mean I just can't think of one thing that hasn't improved since installing them!! You'll love them and so will your Cham

My cham really likes his T5 12% bulb! 1 of his favorite hangouts reads 108 on my Solar Meter. He seems much more active since he doesnt have to spend most of the day trying to soak up the measly UV he was getting from the lesser bulbs.;)

great to hear everyone is likeing theirs..
the led's are supposed to be equivilant to a flourecant of the same lenght

I know I want to get them for my chams too! let me know about your experience with them. having them shipped and how they work. I have been wanting to hear it from someone that they work before investing the money into it. as I have 5 chams to switch. its alot of bucks.:D

Recently I switched to the 12% bulb for the t5 ho fixture. At first I wasn't sure about it, but now I'm sold on it!

After researching copious amounts about UVB, competing products, and ratios of natural UVB, this product offers more versatility and quality than any product I could find at any price point.

I won't make any wild claims like " my chameleons are eating more, look better, more active, etc. after only using it a week or so but I do believe it will help with natural d3.

On my 155 gallon reef tank I'm running 8 48" t5 bulbs and my Corals love it I am running a tek light fixture from sun land supply. They run cooler and use less energy than metal halide it makes sense to try t5 . as far as L.E.D. I've tried the affordable types and not had great luck they look good but serious money needs to be spent for comparable results there are different types of led the ones used for aquarium use is Cree. This is just my opinion and my led experience is limited but I love my t5 setup my corals look great.

i felt the same way but decided to make the plunge. i am only doing 4 cages tho, then we will see about the other 10 ;)
i will definatly take some pics and let everyone know how they are :)

Just curious why you guys are going with the 12% rather than the 6%. Can somebody fill me in

by using the 12% a higher uvb level is obtained and by blocking or raising the bulb you can adjust the uvb intensity getting to your cham. as the bulb wears out you can lower it or remove blocking, thus allowing a single buld to last longer.
a uvb meter is needed to do this correctly, i would not suggest it for those without a meter to verify.
i too asked this question:)

The question I keep asking and no one seems to know is.....How much is too much??? I go from what people test outdoors with thier meter. Chams spend hours in direct sun which can read very High. I hear 200's in the shade and your cham would have to be real close to the 12% bulb to reach that. My feeling is..... Alot of people shy away from the stronger bulbs because the stronger bulbs from the past also emmited harmful rays:eek: The newer bulbs dont!:D My cham has been luv'n his 12% bulb for about a month or more now. he is fine and healthy:D no issues what so ever... For the few dollars more you will get a bulb that puts out superior UV and will last way longer than the T8 bulbs;)

i beleive when you confine an animal you must also confine some of the parameters in witch the animal is kept.

Yes very true. You have seen my new cage. I did quite a bit of design work before building. Having a solid top, (no screen)and mounting the hood smack in the middle, this gives him the option of being up in the top part where its warm.. but sitting just a few inches off to the side he is out of any direct UV at all:) he can also go way down and be at 72 deg. room temp. He is 1 lucky cham:rolleyes:
