Linear or coils.?

For a uvb bulb what is best.? What are best fixtures.? I was thinking of going with a dual domes and getting a coil.? This will be for my custom six foot long cage.

I would recommend linear, but the CFLs nowadays are safe too from what Ive heard.

edit: I didnt notice the 6ft cage length.... Go linears, CFLs would just be impractical with that size of cage

I don't have a home depot. I really don't want to pay all the shipping. But I don't have a choice sadly. What bulbs should I go with.? Like brand wise.

Use light your reptiles or the reptisun 5.0's. Most definitely use linear bulbs spanning the length of a cage that size. I would even use a dual bulb fixture so there is added light. Something in the 6700K range color wise.

Reptisun/reptiglo 5.0, or Arcadia T5 6% bulbs(these will require a T5 fixture), and these bulbs are more expensive, but better bulbs IMO. The extra bulb is not neccesary, but it will help plants grow and give a bit more light. The numbers he is referring to is the color temperature of the bulb, 6500k closely(well not all that close) resembles sunlight and helps w/ plant growth.

Really.? Walmart.? What section will those be in.?
And I don't think my pet store carries bulbs that are that big, so I'll probably have to order those. Is shipping bulbs pretty reliable.?
And I'll look for a plant bulb as well.

In the hardware section of walmart they have shop lights.
They are not pretty, but they are cheap and they work.
If you cant get the 48" bulbs, maybe use 3-24" fixtures.
Im not sure wich way would be cheapest.

It will be divided once I add more chams. I'll go with the 32" that fit a 24" bulb then. Then there will be no gaps. That will be best, right.?

A 32" fixture with a 24" bulb=8" of no UVB.

I would find a 24" fixture that fits a 24" bulb if I were going to use 24" bulbs.
The thing is, you can run one 48" bulb for the same price as it takes to run a 24".
So, the more you split it up, the more expensive your electricity bill is, and the more money you wind up spending on bulbs.

Okay. So buy a 48" fixture and a 24" fixture.? On LLL reptile they sell a 49" fixture that fits a 48" bulb and a 32" fixture that fits a 24" fixture. So in the long run spending more for the bulbs and fixtures will save me in electricity bills.?

Sorry for all the questions...

Yeah, Ive never understood why its so hard to find a 24" fixture in the pet world.
They make them that size to fit fishtanks I assume.
At a hardware store, they have them for any length you need.
So if your bulding this yourself, I say use a cheap ugly fixture that fits the bill, and put a top piece on the enclosure that blocks them from view.
I would get my fixture from a HW store over a pet store any day.

lol. Okay, I have a few HW stores I can look at around here. And I'll just have to order the bulbs. I'm building it myself, and now that I am looking the long linear fixtures take special shipping. So I'll have to buy them in the store and just buy the bulbs online. Save myself some cash in the long run. Any ideas on a top piece.? And how often will these long bulbs need to be replaced.?
