liquid calcium, what is it called and where to get it. mbd cave gecko

i had picked up my kenyan sand boas today and was given a cave gecko by the same guy. he had gotten him in a trade with a bunch of other animals and all were healthy, except this one. he has mbd very badly and does not want to eat. his left front arm is completely crippled, he has rubber joints, and cant straighten out his spine. i know this is not reversible, but id like to try and nurse him back to health otherwise. the guy that has him was giving him powdered calcium on his crickets, but he barely wants to move, let alone catch crickets...i refurbished his tub with papertowels, a nice padded hide, water dish, and mealworms generously coated in calcium with d3. i also put some on his nose when i moved him and he licked it off. if he doesnt start eating the mealworms, ill be making him a mash, but i still need to know where to get the liquid calcium. that will do him better than the powdered stuff.

i go to walgreens or any local drug store , I buy calcium w d3 gel tabs. I then just poke hole either smear on mouth or drop on feeder if animals eating. I even mixed it in teaspoon with water and did syringe drops before.

i have never had animal that had MBD so i cant tell you if that is the best route or not with your condition. Just some ideas though for you to possibly consider.

Its no quick fix but i do this often to females geckos and chameleons.

okay, thanks! do you have any tips for keeping this little guy? i was quite surprised when i read they cant be kept in temps over 80..i was thinking they were similar to a leopard gecko.

also, just got the normal colored ones, black and orange

okay, ill be making a trip to kopp drug tomorrow and see what i can find. is it possible to overdue the d3 when your dealing with an mbd animal? do you have any experience with cave geckos?

I love those KSB they used those as a scale for trimmers the move. and yeah the cave geckos are kind of tricky they are very sedative to heat and 75 is a good temp to keep them at as for set up I am not a 100% sure you would just have to look around.

ive never had good experiences with gecko forums, but i did post a thread there. i hope i get more useful information than people yelling at me to take him to a vet :/

Liquid calcium is said to be more easily absorbed. You can get calcium gluconate or calcium sandoz. I would get one without the D3 so it leaves you in control of how much the gecko gets....less likely IMHO to overdose it.

As with any lizard with MBD the imbalance needs to be corrected and then proper care will keep it from recurring.

Same places carry it, just doesnt say with D3 on the label.

will have that tomorrow i was just wondering if there was a ratio for calcium citrate like there is for the calcium carbonate...gave him a drop of the liquid calcium with d3 and made a slurry out of mashed mealworms, plain calcium, and water...he took it like a champ, figured id at least keep him hydrated..got some pics too..his bones look nasty. look like he has a broken arm, but im not quite sure how to set it, or i would, unless it already healed incorrectly.
