Little Veiled Chameleon eating 80 small crickets in 2 days?

Is that even possible? Should he be eating this much. Or maybe do I have some escapees? I put 40 small crickets in a cricket house...one day later, they are gone. I put 40 more in the next day, and today...all gone?

Is this normal?

How old is your veiled and what size crickets are you talking about? 40 sounds like to many to feed him in one day.

he's about 3 months...and they are less than an inch...maybe even a half inch.

but I have NO idea where they are going

no they are less than an inch...they are small crickets. I would say a half inch. too much food? I was just letting him eat as he pleases and allowed the lucky crickets to go into their cricket house...but they're mia

i was gonna make a cricket run, but i guess for today ill leave him be. maybe tomorrow ill purchase a couple of waxworms. give him a break from crickets?

suggestions?

I have successfully raised baby veileds on 8 appropriately sized crickets each per day.
They grow a bit slower, but I think that is good for proper bone development.
They should be lightly dusted in calcium powder with no D3.
Once a week you can dust with the D3 calcium.
They also need to be properly gut loaded with fresh fruit, vegetables and greens (no broccoli, tomato or spinach) so only one days supply of crickets should be introduced.
Crickets can chew on the chameleon at night and any uneaten ones should be removed before lights out and re-gut loaded for the next day.

alright, I think I'll just leave him alone (foodwise) for the day. And then boy maybe 20 crickets to gutload and feed about 8-10 a day. Thanks yall!

Also, is he too young to have waxworms, or would I be able to buy a couple of those as well?

You should give him a break from eating !!! waxworms...chameleons and other reptiles have a total other metabolism than mammals have
With so many feeders you will cause adiposias and a very early death

crickets dont grown to a inch long!
Even half a inch is big. Do u meen half a cm?
Because that would b a small cricket.....40 a day of thosd still seems alot though..

The crickets that are commonly available as feeders in the States are about an inch and a half long when fully developed.

Actually, I haven't feed him a waxworm. I've only been giving him crickets dusted with calcium, and dusted with vitamins once a week.

serious?
thats huge.
the locust you get here can grow that big or bigger, but the crickets tend to get about 2cm's at most.
We can get brown crickets, silent crickets and black crickets here, what type can you get over there?

Just wondering, but do you buy the crickets and then just put them in something in his cage? You should just be putting a few in the cage and keeping the crickets somewhere else where you can gut load them. 40 in a day is ALOT... but they will more than likely eat that many if it is available.
