Lobster Roaches

I have a lobster roach colony for feeding to my chams, but I've never had dubias, so I can't really say which one is better. I believe lobster roaches are smaller than dubias, so I think the adult lobster roaches are a more appropriate size to feed to most adult chams, whereas adult dubias are a little big for most the chams people keep. Lobster roaches can climb smooth surfaces which might make them harder to contain, but I haven't had much problem with escapees. I think as long as you give them plenty of places to hide and keep them well fed, they're content to just stay in the container. Even when I open the container, they don't try to escape much. They mostly want to run lower down in the container to hide.

I use both. Lobsters are actually my staple roach because I have lots of lizards and lobsters are very prolific.

They are softer than dubia, more active, and my lizards seem to prefer them. Even the large melleri prefer the lobsters to dubia (but big bearded dragons go for the biggest bugs they can choke down so they prefer the dubia and hissers.)

They reproduce rapidly which is why I cannot get away from them.

They are fine in my lizard building, but I have a rule that only dubia come into the house. I would not raise lobsters in the house because they are much more hardy than dubia (or hissers which I also breed), babies are much smaller and can fit into tiny cracks and all sizes can stick to and climb anything they want- smooth surfaces and ceilings are no problem. My adults continue to reproduce in the building even when temperatures are in the 50s and 60s when the lizards are brumating. My dubia and hissers slow down and stop breeding- the lobsters are still active and babies still appear. All of these are why I do not bring them into the house. I only feel safe with bringing dubia into the house to feed any pets that are in the house.

Baby lobsters are a good replacement for pinheads too.
