Long Overdue Thank You!

I just wanted to thank all the posters here very very much. I have wanted to get a chameleon for about three years but never thought I could take the plunge because I know zero people who have ever had one. About 8 months ago I started getting serious and discovered this forum. So, through reading, searching, reading, and more searching I found the confidence to try to breed dubia, silkworms, superworms, and houseflies. I have had many ups and downs with the "bugs" but I am learning. I set up everything the little guy would need and last month got him! Such a wonderful experience so far! Sorry this is long winded but THANK YOU ALL for giving me so much knowledge and information to keep my little guy healthy and happy!

Hi Deb, we are so happy you joined us. It is wonderful to hear someone care enough to learn before they buy. You will have one happy little nosey be.Congratulations. Welcome to our home.:D:D Soon you will think this is home, you just have to check in every day.:)

Hello, welcome, and I'm sure it's all good because that's a lot of preparation to do before even getting the Cham!
I've kept a good few reptiles before the current batch, but I just saw some for sale and went back the next week! You do know you can buy insects, right? You don't have to always breed all your own feeders :)
Anyway now you're here, how long before you post pictures and show him off?

Oh, Laurie, I already do check in everyday to see what's up. I can't tell you enough how wonderful this place is!

And David, yea I know I can buy feeders but I wanted to see how easy or difficult each would be and to see if they would be worth the effort or not.

I have tons of pictures of him but I can't seem to choose a photo from my iPad files under the attachment link and the copy and paste doesn't work either. So, learning about how to post pics from my iPad is the next thing I have to do. Next time I am on my computer I will definitely post pics. I love him so much! Plus I guess I am ready to hear opinions on how I can make things better for him!

Okay, I just got photobucket and not too sure how to get the pics to preview. But he loves sitting outside on his homemade tree. I am making a screen enclosure to go all around it so he can stay outside longer. I have his baby cage inside his adult space. When he is ready, well, more like when I am ready, I'll take out his cage and fill in the space with more plants and vines.

Hello Deb
So glad you've found the forum useful so far, and no doubt will continue to do so. Given that you went to the trouble to do your research and bug breeding experimentation before getting your chameleon, I predict you will be a big asset to the forum!

He looks real good, and setups look great from here too - just one word of caution, because nearly everyone learns the hard way to keep a really close eye on them when they are outside. It looks like a great outside setup, but it's not totally secure unless it's totally sealed, so I hope you watch anytime he's on there.......

You have a nice size baby cage.. I wanna see more photos. My baby girl is not adjusting to having a 65 gallon. So I demoted her to the cricket keeper and have given her some cucumber.. I tried letting her roam in a free range area and she just went wild.. I found her in CRAZY places.. on stuffed animals on the shelves.. Behind stuff..Climbing radio wires.. When I look at your thingy now. It makes me wounder how your going to get your Chameleon to hold still!

Thanks for the kind words. I was working on things for over 6 months before I even ordered him. I work slow and I had a vision of what I wanted after reading and seeing lots of things here on the forums.

David - I am building a totally secure enclosure for his outside tree. It should be finished this Sunday. When he goes out now, I am never more than 12" from him! Believe me, I have read enough stories. I really do try to learn from others mistakes!

CammieBaby- Well, I am concerned about that. I know he already wants to roam out of his baby cage but I also know I am not ready. Sometimes I can't even find him in his baby cage. So, I am going to wait until he is older and bigger. I haven't even let him play in that space yet because I don't think I could find him if I wasn't watching him every second. I have only had him a month and I want us to get to know each other better. I left him be for over 2 weeks to get adjusted so I have only handled him to go outside 3 times now. and Plan B is to just put his adult cage in the same space! I have a 2x2x4 for him if problems arise with the free range thing.

Oh, I'm sure it's all ok mate, I could tell from the first post that you'd done the research...... but if I didn't say it someone else on here would :)
