Looking for Mist King Specifications

I'm looking for the information on the cheapest Mist King starter pump MKP-125-50

From the manufacture's web site they just say this:

This is the starter pump.
  • Use with one nozzle or with 10 nozzles.
  • Continuous run EVEN DRY!
  • Self priming pump
  • 125 PSI max pressure
  • Virtually silent
  • Requires a 1.2Amp 24V AC/DC adapter.
  • It should be gravity fed when priming to bypass the blocking pressure of the nozzle checkvalves.
  • 1/4" push in fittings on both sides of the pump
  • pump mounting bracket.
  • ZipDrip is optional feature on this pump.
  • SKU MKP-125-50
  • Weight 7.20 lbs
What I don't see:
  • L/Min rating
  • Nominal PSI
  • Any other spec that's on the pump itself

Does anyone have this info on a pump they can post?

I'm looking at this product as well as even making my own if cost effective. Thank you.

IMHO just buy the starter, they've all been tested so there's no room for error. building your own would save a little money but is it really worth it, now your spending time on a mister build instead of ordering a product that is recommended by most keepers and just simply installing it in your setup filling your reservoir and letting the fine misting Begin. the specs I believe come inside the mistking booklet I'm not 100 on that but I do believe seeing psi ratings I'm not home but I can check later. Climist is another misting system it's just not as nice IMO doesn't have a nice timing display like the mistkings.

Yeah, I figured that as well, but even the basic setup will set me back $130+ (it only comes with one nozzle)

Where as potentially I can do the same thing for about $60"

I'm a tinkerer and I love the challenge as well. What I don't like is the time crunch I'm currently under. If you could please post the specs, I would appreciate it. After researching and comparing parts I may opt. for the Mist King based on several factors.

You don't want to use the pump you linked earlier - those really cheap diaphragm pumps are
1. Extremely noisy
2. Will burn out quickly. They have a pressure regulator on them so what happens is the pump brings the system up to pressure, then the pressure switch kicks the pump off, the misting nozzles bleed off the pressure, and the pump kicks back on. This repeats about once a second (or faster depending on the number of nozzles and the flow rate of the pump). Those cheap pumps just aren't built for that kind of abuse and the switch will very quickly burn out.
3. The connections on them tend to be a funky size and are a pain. They're usually made in China so while the description says it fits 3/8" hose it is more likely to be some weird metric size that is hard to track down here in the states. You can't just use any hose that you can stretch over the barb either because you're working with high pressure.

I know all this because I tried the very exact same thing as you're thinking. After dumping around $60 into my project I discovered I had two choices - dump more money into my own project for the right parts I needed or cut my loses and just buy a Mistking setup. I chose the Mistking and haven't regretted it.

You CAN DIY your own Mistking/Climist clone - you just aren't going to save enough money to make it worth it (if any at all). The first thing is to start with a correct pump, look at RO (reverse osmosis) booster pumps. Like these...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AQUATEC-880...129652?hash=item2a732fa8b4:g:3z8AAOSw8gVYB-8v
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AQUATEC-884...885629?hash=item2a4b1e077d:g:kjQAAOSwk5FUw802

I've read that at one point in time either Mistking or Climist or perhaps both were using rebranded Aquatec pumps like in those links. Don't quote me on that, but its what I have read. In any case those are the type of pumps you need to look at. Now looking closer at the nozzle system you linked it isn't going to work in this system. Its designed for relatively low pressure, if you hook it up to either the pump you originally linked or those ones I did something pretty spectacular is going to happen pretty quick. Either the line will blow apart because its not rated for the pressure you're working with or probably more likely to fail first is it'll just blow one of the barbed connections out the end of the hose.

Nozzles are a little tricky, cheapest solution would be these. I actually used a few of these until just a few weeks ago on my Mistking setup (I was too cheap to pony up for the additional MK nozzles and I had these from my failed project).

They work alright, only thing I didn't like about them is the spray "cone" is rather tight. Whereas Mistking nozzles have a very wide spray pattern (probably 120º at least), the brass nozzles I had at least had a cone more like 60º or so. Mine kept plugging too even though there shouldn't have been anything in my system to plug them as I'm using RO/DI water.

If you want to DIY actual Mistking nozzles you need to look at something like this. Mistking nozzles ARE Tefen brand nozzles, mine have a number stamped on them but I haven't had luck tracking down nozzles with the same number (I figure its a model number but perhaps I'm wrong). I'm also not sure what the back end of the nozzles looks like as I've never had the need to unscrew one to look.If you were to use these nozzles you'd of course have to find the right connections to go from 1/8" NPT to 1/4" JG (John Guest).

As you can see, the parts and pieces start adding up quick. In my experience I number crunched things 15 ways to Sunday and what I came up with is you can DIY or you can just buy a Mistking/Climist system prepackaged - you end up spending pretty close to the exact same amount of money either way by the time everything is said and done.

This times a million...honestly. Was at this very point last week and finally threw in the towel, just go for the mist king if you can.

If you're in the states I wouldn't order directly through the Mistking.com website - only because it'll take forever to get your order (or so I've been told). Mistking is actually based in Canada, so if you order straight through the website they ship from Canada so it'll have to clear customs and all that jazz. There are several US resellers though. This is a list

I ordered mine through Pangea Reptiles - absolutely no issues. They shipped very fast and at the time I ordered mine they had the cheapest shipping cost.

There are several businesses on their distributor list which are sponsors of this forum. The only other one I've personally dealt with is LLLreptile - they're a good place to order from.

I concur. Where's the cheapest place to buy a mist king? :cautious:

I bought my Starter system at a reptile expo. I paid the retail price straight up, but saved money on tax and shipping. I haven't seen it anywhere else cheaper. So hopefully there's one near you soon!

On the Mist King Web site, when you order the basic setup, they give you options. One of them is called "Double Misting Assembly (Upgrade)" It lists for $4.99. What is this exactly? It is a second mister nozzle? Something else? Here is the MistKing website link:

I can't seem to find this option on Josh's Frogs. I'm comparing overall price and shipping. Thanks for the suggestion above! (y)

I currently have a 18x18x36 setup for a baby panther. And two nozzles is 1 to many. I believe you are using a 24x24x36 terrarium. The double mist is nice but will saturate the area very quickly. Use the one nozzle and just mist longer.

After setting up my glass terrarium. Regarding misting less is more. My tank is nice and humid with 2 misting a day for less than a minute. You can always get a second head for the other side of the cage later..

If you are worried about shipping I would add a second nozzle with the t assembly that way if you find you are not getting good coverage you can add it later. Or if you add another chameleon to your collection then you already have the nozzle.

The mist king on Josh's is 129.00 and the extra t assembly is 14.25. The wedges are $5.99. So for the extra $25.00 completely worth it to save on shipping later. The other option is to find a store near you that carries their line. Unfortunately because they pay for shipping and still need to make money I find these costs much higher.

I just saw somebody post on here selling one for 75$

The basic starter package comes with this nozzle by standard.

If you choose the double misting assembly it'll instead come with this nozzle

You didn't mention it but I will anyway - I wouldn't waste money buying additional wedges. They are super simple to make yourself - just go to your local hardware store and find a stiff piece of plastic or a sheet of coroplast or whatever else you can find (actually thinking on this right now - a plastic kitchen cutting board would work fantastic). Then you can just use the included wedge that comes with the system as a template to cut out/drill as many wedges as you please.

Thanks for clearing up the Double Misting upgrade. (y) Seems like a well spend $4.99, if I go with the Mist King website. But, dang their shipping really blows any savings....

Non of the other websites allow you customize or build up a system. :(

My terrarium stays humid with very little misting. I can mist at 7 am and the humidity will still be in the 80's around noon.

I'm afraid one nozzle may not get all the plants, so I am considering two so that I can mist 2-3 times a day for a few seconds each time.

I'm pricing the kit on LLLReptile and they have the best shipping so far.
