Looking for some closure.

Sorry to start a new thread but I didn't think it'd be possible to get any answers from it with myself bumping it up, not like I need many answers.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/weak-dying-something-8431/
is the link describing my chameleon's problem.

Now....:( I believe he is dead.

Following my last post from last night I woke up this morning and went to the vet with my mom and cham. She talked to a lady/cham expert and prescribed us a multivitamin supplement, saying it most likely was either lack of heat or calcium defeciency. Took him home around 3, and gave him the vitamin paste right away due to weight and everything. Spent some time setting up and doing a complete rehaul of the cage I had him in, more vines, more leaves, replaced all sticks substrate little particles of anything. Bought new uvb bulb, new heat lamp bulb both for day and night, bought vitamin powder for cricks. I put him back in the cage right next to the light (he was not moving very much on my bed before putting him in, while I set up). He sat on the vine for a couple minutes looking ok, he then made a hiss-like noise and his eyes buldged out in front of where his eyes are usually placed in center, then he fell upside down on the vine, eyes still moving very slightly. Naturally scared, I took him out immediatly and held him in my hand to get a closer look. Now we have pretty much no movement, expect what appears to be releasing air when his is moved, eyes are out and centered like normal looking, closed however and not moving, no breathing or moving apparent. Head is mostly brownish/gray, 66% of body is medium brown, and 33% green vertical striped. I assume he is dead, I realize he might have had respiratory problems due to the temperature dropping in my room the past week, which I told the vet and they hinted it might have been a problem, however not respiratory so no antibiotics were given (although probably too late), just looking for some confirmation he is dead... and uh yeah that's it.

I appreciate your help and thanks..

Sorry but your cham is dead:(. Or he will be dead tomarrow. Honestly I don't think there's hope. Sorry for sounding like a downer:(

No worries, everyone here was very helpful and I appreciate the help very much, I understand it happens. Thanks.

You can always buy another cham and start from scratch:) Owning chameleons is a big learning experience. You just got to learn from your mistakes.

True, but, you know I just don't feel like risking it making a different mistake and losing another one, it's definatly been a learning experience just owning this one, but I may sit out for a while.

Whatever you feel is best. You can always stay on the forums and keep learning.

So sorry to hear of your loss.. :( You can always read the forums and learn as much as you can about chameleons while sitting it out.

That way, in the future, if you get another one you'll be more prepared to take care of it..

really sorry to here about your loss and im going to agree with everyone else and say its definately a learning experience that takes practice and lots of researching to get right

with my first cham the only thing i didn't have was a uv light and he got a really bad case of MBD

I'm sorry for your loss. Its not easy losing a pet.

You said the vet gave you a multivitamin for the chameleon....can you tell me what it was?

Which, the multivitamin I just adminstered that the vet gave me? It was like a carni-care or something that I had to mix in water into a sort of paste then squirt into his mouth.

Sorry for your loss :(

If your cham passed over but you are unsure of the causes of death, it may be helpful to ask the vet to perform an autopsy or at least some blood tests to check what could have been wrong. I realize it can be a difficult step but it often carries many an answer to unsolved problems - you can also regain confidence in further learning and future keeping of these lizard, and it could be a useful complement to your - and, also, this communities' and your vet's - knowledge.

Sorry for your loss. It always is hard losing a pet cuz they are so vulnerable and depend on us completely. But you always need to learn from your mistakes and promise yourself to be better the next time around. I wouldn't give up on owning chams completely if you love em. I am pretty sure the vast majority of us on this site have all lost pets. I know I have many times over. I get myself to buy more based on the idea that if I don't take care of these little creatures who will? Will they end up in a shitty home where no one really cares or just sit in the pet store until they die. I may not be the best but I know there are lots worse places than with me :) cuz i will always do my best and care.

We learn from our errors -not by confirming what we already know....
make this a learning experience.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's difficult
I've had them die in my hands after doing EVERYTHING I can think of to save their lives.
It's always difficult but you can turn it into a positive by preventing the same errors
and improving you care for the next one.. when you're ready.

We're human and not perfect.... but we can learn and earn the ability to give
these wonderful creatures what they need to thrive better than in the wild.

Please conduct the necropsy and post the results.
