Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - I have meller's chameleon for about a month now.
Handling - Only when necessary to move him. 2 or 3 times week.
Feeding - He eats so far crickets gut loaded with rephasy bug burger. silkworms, hornworms, few wax worms. hes only ate 2 hornworms in month. other than that he eats about 25 insects a day. Last two days only 15 or so. Hes been preoccupied with new plant. I normally feed in morning so he has chance to heat up before and after.
Supplements - Im using rep-cal phosphorus free calcium with vit D3 and rep-cal herptivite with beta carotene. Im trying to come up with recommended schedule I believe it was monthly. I lost email from photoprincess. The places that sell them recommended every other day which im realizing is too much.
Watering - My plan was too have misters on timer for 20-30min in morning and two more times for 5 min a day. However mine was leaving and going to sides of cage where misting does not happen. For now which has been working well is Ive been misting him for 20-30 min by hand he sips the water and swallows. He also has been swishing eyes too. He also has a humidifier.
Fecal Description - Hes got a very dark brownish almost black stool with very white part. Its not runny nor very hard.. its moist.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Picture below. It has screen on three sides. made of wood. Its overall size is about 6.5ft by about 3ft by 2ft. The living space is 4 by 3 by 2ft.
Lighting - He has a power sun 100 w Uvb mercury vapor bulb.
Temperature - Theres 3 probes It varies a little day to day. From 70 and in basking spot is where I having problem today It was 98 degrees.
Humidity - I have one probe that reads humidity how ever it can be right in the mist of the humidifier right on probe to see if reading right and It may read in 40s doesnt seem right. So im looking for new one. Just this one if I remember was the most expensive. What im sure of is he has cooler side with the humidifier and its misted in cage and the other side is where basking spot is. There should be a good range.
Plants - I didnt want to ad live plants with soil until later. I just bought one pothos and Im slowly adding more. most right now is artifiicial and lots of vine and wood.
Placement - Its in living room.. Im mostly alone in living room I do have roommate but never comes in there. The top of cage is about 5 to 5.5 ft to top of cage then canopy and I have 10inches of space to ceiling.
Location - Im in Rhode island

Current Problem - I just want to get some opinions and see if theres any problems. I dont want to have problem with him he seems to be doing well.
Also I dont consider it free ranging to have a tree and plant with light. But I did add .. I always leave doors open when at home and he would stick his head out and look around so I added this plant in picture below with vine too it to see if it would work well.

I also have light issues. I had a powersun 160 watt and with varying degrees with weather it would get really really hot 120 degrees so I turned off and ordered and recieved today 100w. I put it in and now I have 99 degrees and its tad warm in house about 72degrees. I was recommended to have 10inches from light too perch but when hes on it theres only probably 6 inches from him to light. Im was trying to figure a way out of having to pull light away from cage as I have a canopy on top but I may have to figure this out and do somehow where it looks nice as well. mellersunderlight.jpg

I bought a heater for his misting system to see if warm water would be the problem with him not drinking or staying in mist I had one in there but only 78 degrees its now 85. When I hand mist its very warm and he loves it.

One last thing I have a ceramic heater with a thermostat it doesnt go over 80 degrees at night he has plenty of cooler spots but I do notice on some nights he uses ceramic heater. I have no issues that im aware of with this.

So pictures are below let me no what your thinking.

I did try hard with this but theres always quirks and the lighting with mine is the one. I dont want him to cook I just checked now and its 101degrees. He seemed very happy in it earlier and didnt open his mouth like he did with other bulb. I also would like it to look nice .. dont want to hang the light on side ..Im thinking of angling the light by tilting it or something.

can anyone tell me if I could use a UVB bulb that has no heat and then use the ceramic with thermostat for heat portion? I was told they make a UVB bulb that doesnt throw heat I never new this.

Ya UVB tube with no heat is the typical way to do it. I do not recommend a ceramic heater during the day because he will have a hard time finding the hot spot as there is no light. Just use a UVB tube and a 60 watt household bulb placed close.

I don't use heaters at all. I use 60 watt household bulbs for basking - maybe a bit higher wattage for the lights that are further away ... my basking temps range from 85 - 95 degrees. they like the higher temps in the morning but generally stay in the cooler areas during the day.

I use 5.0 and 10.0 uv lights depending on distance/foliage cover as well.

awesome thanks.. I just looked at him he was getting burned a little on the ridge of his back .. I need to fix this fast. I just moved the light to other side where I could lower branches so he cant get that close standing on the branches to the light and Im happy to announce that it worked!!! lol I got 85 degrees where he will be standing .. phew. Im going to get the other UVB light though.

Hi photoprincess.. I dont no alot about what bulbs are called. when you say 5.0 and 10.0 UV bulb do you mean these do not throw heat?

I purchased a light enclosure with a built in dimmer for my basking bulb, it makes adjusting the temperature super easy.
