Today I was cleaning my outside cage for my Oustaleti so I put him on my screen porch (only a few feet from his cage) he likes to hang out on the plants out there and normally doesnt wander, even if he does he cant go anywhere or get into trouble....so I thought! I came back about ooh 30 seconds later and what do I find, A big brownish yellowish thing in my pool. TITAN!!! He decided he was tired of the trees so he just casually came down and plopped right in the pool, he seemed to be enjoying it and since its been rainy and the pool was flooded he couldve easily gotten out on his own...I grabbed a net and I got him out I hosed him showered him, misted him, I was so worried he may have swallowed some water or something....He is fine about 8 hours later and I guess I caught him just in time. Ive been misting him like crazy to get any chlorine that he may have had on him off and I am certainly not leaving him unnatended. Just shows even when you think their safe you need to be supervising them.

well theres my adventure for the day :eek:

Was he swimming? I've seen a video of chams swimming. Maybe he just wanted to go in for a dip :p

yes he was swimming, like I said he just leisurely went in there, the pool is a good walk form were he was and there are no other plants near it...he was swimming at his own leisurely pace until he saw me with the net then he swam pretty fast.

about 15 years ago when i used to keep veileds , i had about 600 gal patio pond with a rock / bromeliad type feature in the middle of it, i sometimes put my veileds in the middle to sun themselves, after several times doing this and several hrs watching them walk to the water and then retreat , i just assumed that they were adverse to the idea of swimming , so i would occassionaly leave them unattended , while i was nearby , until one time i came back and found my most prized veiled drowend at the edge of the pond , just goes to show you , when you think you can read them like a book , they always have a new page to turn

I know the face you are talking about. the same one I wore the first time I saw my veiled do the same. I grabbed him with both hands and pumped him slightly just in case. lol slly looking back... but... =whew=
I'm glad your story has a good ending. :D

I am telling you every time it seems to be the Oustaleti who always get in trouble. These guys must love to wander. After all the stories about them giving grief to owners I am not sure I would ever trust myself with one!!!!

Its true! he can run like youd never expect when your not watching and end up on a random plant just watching you with a face like "How 'bout that" he definetly has character

I sat there and watered him for like 5 minutes and made him drink some...I was so worried but now it just seems silly I went and checked on him this morning and hes fine, Im assuming if he had chlorine poisoning he would've been gone by now :eek:

Danny; I am so glad that he is ok. You have got to start watching your guys more carefull when they are out of their cage. Jann

never a dull moment with Titan around....Oustalets are so full of personality. He is smart too, When I unravel the hose to mist him (I can see him he cant see me) hell creep out of his cage like hes sneaky then get pissy when he sees me coming to break his taste of freedom. :p

*sigh*

Bad Danny!

I thought we had a talk about this? lol Stop taking you chams outside unless they are caged. Don't make me come down there.

Seriously I'm glad he's ok. I was under the impression Chams are not strong swimmers, so I think you got really lucky.

LOL. His cage is outside so its easier to just let him chill on the patio. They are strong swimmers, Theres a few vids of them swimming on youtube, its nothing in comparasin to iguanas etc but they swim pretty well.

I dont think a little pool water would hurt him .I wouldn't worry about that as much as your lucky he didn't drown they aren't the smartest animals.

I think you did just the right things. My vet would say, "You're a good mommie." lol
And I say.. "All's well the ends well, TG!" lol Brava :}
