does anyone have a solution for chirping crickets? I live in an apartment by myself and I dont really know where I can put the crickets and they're SOOOOOO LOUD! I tired putting them under the sink and in the closet its still really noisy! Is there a material that can cover the sound that i can put over the holder? *its one of those cricket holder things...*

I don't mind chirping crickets. They are nature's white noise. One escapee in the bedroom that can't be found and chirping away could be devastating to one's sanity.

well they're all in their keeper but my apartments pretty small so its like they've all escaped and are chirping their life away!!! I wish they can breed crickets that dont chirp...

yeah i buy 3/4 and 90% of the time they're pretty good... but today's batch is sooo noisy!!!

3/4 inchers is just asking for freshly molted adults.

i recommend buying 1/2 inch crix.

might i ask why you havnt considered dubia yet? they're cute in their rollie pollie way and don't stink, make noise, nor are they stinky or noisey!!!

edit: there should be some sort of statistic by now LOL... but dubia, escaping out of their container, compared to crickets, is what guys???? a billion times lower!!!

but 1/2 are too small... and i'd have to feed double the amound wouldn't I? I don't think i can't get dubias where i am... ohh and hes a 6 month old veiled...

My original sollution was just to get smaller crickets before they have wings and make noise. I was kept awake all night by some of the crickets I got..... The so called 'silent' brown crickets really aren't 'silent'.

Then my chameleon went off crickets and I mainly feed him locusts now, which aren't nearly as good at escaping, make less noise and don't seem to bite (as far I can tell). They aren't legal in the US, not sure if you can get them in Canada. Stick insects have also been quite successful so far but they seem to be ridiculously good at escaping and I have no idea if they've been escaping from chameleon cage or the thing I keep them in.

at my local petstore the more crickets you buy the cheaper it is. so if you buy more 1/2 inchers it evens out pricewise. thats just my situation tho.

Go for silk worms with small crickets. They get the chitin, water, and nutrition they need!! Or you can search for a place with cockroaches! I'm sure there are some somewhere!

if the other options dont work for you. start a colony of roaches. i suggest lobster roaches. they are quiet and they dont escape despite what i have read. and untill you get them breeding put them in a styrafoam cooler well put their container in it and dont put the lid all the way on it will cit the sound in half
