Love bug season

I believe love bug season should be coming soon here in Florida.
That being said, i was wondering if it would be a problem if my cham eats some while we are outside.
I have no intention of purposely feeding them to him, but I’m just curious incase he tries to snatch some up in the future.

According to what I read, they don't sting, bite, or have poison. They feed on nectar. Nectar feeding insects are a large part of their wild diet, so I'd imagine these would make pretty good feeders if what I read is true. My chams love bees personally

Totally not related to the original question but bumble bees are chameleon safe? There were some flying around while I had my veiled outside and I could tell he was scoping it out. I wanted him to go after it just because watching them hunt is so cool but I kinda shoo’ed it away because I wasn’t sure if they’re chameleon safe.

I mean, they can sting. But I've always seen my chams catch them and chew them too fast for the bee to react. Figure, they must eat stinging insects on a daily basis in the wild.

So true. When you have a tongue that flies out in .07 seconds there’s not much time for the bee to react at all. Thanks!

They seem to know which insects can bite/sting. My chams will often sit there with a roach in their mouth without chewing. While if they grab a bee, superworm, or anything else they quickly chew and crush their heads.

I dont encourage feeding bees, but I don't stop them either. The ones here are small and die pretty much instantly. I keep wasps away though. I'll have to keep an eye out on the tongue. I've heard of people letting them eat bees with no problem so I didn't worry too much about it.

I see them eat bees in the wild but there’s no one around to know if they ever have a problem later.

True, I just figured they'd come across bees pretty often. There's a lot flying around here and they pick them out of the air. It's difficult to manage what they eat when they're outside.

As long as your not in an area the insects are exposed to pesticides or Industrial/ urban setting to many things out there that could potentially have adverse affects to you buddy. Other than that variety is best!!
