Love is in the air! (Pic Heavy)

Update time!

I didn't get any gravid pictures of her unfortunately as we were trying our best to leave her alone as much as possible.

Now onto the news....

After 25 days we have eggs! Mommy is doing well and sleeping right now. It's amazing how well she packed the soil back down in her hole.

She laid a total of 32, 31 of which look pretty healthy to us. Thanks to everyone who had patience with our questions in the past month, you've all been a huge help!

Here's the fruit of her labour lol

There are a couple smaller ones that seemed a bit damp when I was taking them out. Is this normal?

Woa! Love wasn't in the air, it was in that tree! What a funny and cute story those photos tell. So we're incubating them now? I'm so excited to see when they hatch!

wow man, hes a stunner. youre going to have some nice looking babies.. might be time for me to get a second to go with Big Red

congrats dude

I will definitely be following this thread to see the babies. Im thinking of an ambilobe. Do you free range them together?

No they have separate enclosures. They each take turns free ranging in a huge ficus tree in the living room.

He's pretty aggressive/territorial so that's why we decided to breed them in the tree instead of his cage. Normally they're not together at all.

soo cool im very new but have been lookin at alot of thebreeding threads and thinking that one day i may have to give it a try. still got alot of leaarniong to do. best of luck and thx for all the great pics

Glad everything turned out good for the ambi cpl and you guys too. Now the tough part, the waiting game begins. I dont know whats more nerve wracking waiting for your female to lay succesfully or waiting 6-8 months for the eggs to hatch. No wonder Im going grey. lol

haha! noooo kidding! the last 25 days felt like an eternity! I wish i could jump in a time machine for the next 8 months. most of the eggs look pretty big & our girl is small. Its unbelievable that she had 32 eggs in her. She is super active & looking healthy. Thank you everyone who has helped along the way & everyone who has commented on this thread!

Update. Approx 1 month into incubation, we are down from 31 to 26 eggs. All suspect eggs have molded and been removed. All the other eggs are noticeably larger and whiter and are still looking solid. Cant wait guys & gals!!!

She is such a beautiful girl, a successful laying is a good start. Sorry you lost a few eggs but keep us posted on the rest.

Thanks Laurie! Will do. Im having trouble typing this reply... I cant take my eyes off the incubator! :)

LMAO!!!!!:D My advice for you is to try and forget about them at least for a few more months. I know, not that easy:p The Dwarf Fischers that I have hatched took 10.5 months! Talk about an excruciating wait every time!

Nice looking pair you have there and congrats on the eggs.

Thanks for the compliments. 10 & a half months?! Im guessing thats out of the ordinary for the species... Must have been really hard those last couple months. :) Patience must have been a virtue!
The whole experience has been surreal so far. Already getting prepared for the little ones.

Ok guys and gals... bumping this thread because were 2 weeks away from the 5 month point. Ive decided to go with bins as it is cheap and sufficient. Ive got everything I need. I have a few simple questions about setting up baby enclosures.

The bins are approx. 12 inches deep by about 18 inches wide by 20 inches high... How many should I be able to keep per bin? How high should I build the climbing material and foliage to begin with? Is the size I decided on going to be small enough for them to hunt sufficiently? Can I start them in one bin and divide them as they grow?
Is paper towel going to absorb enough water that I can mist 5 times a day without drainage?
