Lucy died

My dad looked in the enclosure this morning. Her eyes were sunken (She was severely dehydrated) and pale.
I cant bury her, with the ground frozen solid (-40) so I dont know what to do.

Remember: keep the temps 79-81, or there's a higher chance of egg binding.

I know it sounds awful but I lost Annie a bit ago and our ground is also frozen. She is in a ziploc bag in a box in the freezer until spring when I can bury her. Very sorry to hear about Lucy.

I don't want to sound mean because I am not trying to be. How often did you mist or have something dripping?? How did she become dehyrdated? If she was egg bounding and you knew it was a "female" you should have a 6-7 inch pan down at the bottom of the cage no matter what.

I am sorry to hear this but how long have you had her??

I misted 5x a day, dripper 2-3 hours a day.

She stopped drinking. Its natural while egg laying.

I did. a 12" deep flower pot of sand. after day 5 i dug her a hole. she crawled in, but no activity.

14 months.

Thanks so much laurie!

Egg binding, Dehydration, and she wouldn't eat, just to top things off.

EDIT: stress, and 9 degree indoor weather could also be factors.

you didn't seem concerned when all this started. I do everthing to make sure that my chameleons health amd temp is just perfect. I have a male veiled btw.

I was extremely concerned, and i pay close attention to temperature. Its just that my house is freezing, so i thought I'dtrya 100w bulb, and see how much heat it puts out.

My house is freezing mostly in my room but I keep my heaters on and the room gets pretty warm with the door closed. I also mist heavy with hot water which comes out warm. I have a heat bulb that is infrared which stays on 24/7. The top branch is laid horizontal at the very top near the lights so if he does get cold he sits under them. I never let anything get bad enough to cause something, my chameleon "Charlie" Is very healthy, active, and loves to eat. I barely hold him, only once a week maybe twice. I have him in a low traffic room and a full screen cage with a dripping system.

How and where was your cage set up?

My thoughts are with you. I'm very sorry.

Skully: red lights are not recommended as they disturb the chameleons sleep. Why all the questions? :)

They don't disturb the chameleons sleep because they can not see the red off the light I have. I was told by an expert. It allows you to see in and allows heat to give off but the chameleon will not see it. Which is why he does not move his eyes around when I stand there and his uvb is off.

I am asking to see how it was cared for to help me see if I have any problems. Getting info now to stop whatever could happen to mine.
