It was never my idea to feed them the pupae. I was breeding hornworms at one time and had a bunch of extra pupae. I put them on top of a laying bin I had in the Mellers room. One by one they started disappearing, but left no "skin" behind - so I knew they weren't hatching. It actually took me several days to figure out the Melleri were eating them. I just couldn't imagine it at the time. Finally, it dawned on me and I tested it by holding a pupa up for a cham. Sure enough it was eaten immediately. Looking back, of course, it should have been obvious, but . . .
