Male ambilobe chameleon keeps falling

The only concern I had with my female is she's almost one year old next month. She's three inches nose to vent kinda small. When I thought 12-14 inches for ambilobe females. I was told its a freak of nature because everything done with her is right. It's strange that another member had similar issue. That would cause fatal results down the road from being a growing baby to a colorful boy.
Am going to try to get him in the vet sooner because right now he's not looking so good. Eyes are moving but won't move his body. His life is in his hands and by Monday am not sure.

He still alive took a few drops of water but no liquid calcium. Wouldn't eat anything but used tongue for a drip of water after misting. He's been wanting water and good sign. The movement if it wasn't for my help wouldn't be at the top grabbing heat and UVB. The eyes are alert but today one eye was covered with white ness that I got open for him.
I switched to a reptisun 10 and temps by 5 degrees F' just to help. Not sure about anything else I can do for him but the waiting process.

You're doing a great job, keep it up! If your cham isn't giving up, neither should you! I been down in the dumps just like you and was really close to give him up. But I really love him and want to see him back on track again, I even cried like 2-3 times cause this is killing me and hearth breaking to see him "suffer". Chameleons know how to fall, they can handle it pretty good, it's not as bad if dog would fall. Your chameleon is having the best medicin he can get, a dedicated owner. Just keep it up! It's hard I know, sometimes I get down in the dumps and then right back up again. I can tell you that my guy seems a little better, knock on wood, and it's the small things that gives you hope and strength to keep going. I was also using uvb"bulbs" before but I changed it when he started to get bad, got some linear 10.0 and he really likes it :) Just gonna let you know I'm following this thread so please keep us updated. Keep in mind that sometimes I get worse before it's get better.

My prayers are with and my best good luck to you two, I'm sure he will get better in no time and then be back on track :)

Thank you for all the support. He hasn't gave up yet. He's been shakey and climbing little better like on the mesh. Been trying to hide from me or the lights not sure.
I took him to the vet x-rays confirm mbd. There is something wrong with his back legs that are deformed and with his case can't be fixed. He got a injection and was given a calcium for twice day use. The vet told me to give him a chance and if he still doesn't show any progress. Then putting him down would be best and last alternative. The bones can't be reversed and has a fracture that is severe and may not heal on its own. With the state he was in no blood was taken and has to eat something before baytril can be used. I couldn't get a fecal done.
I have falth in him and the vet and the blog I just read. Gave me some hope and am sure it will get worse before it gets better. Am with my little trooper till that day comes. Going above and beyond for him and whatever I have to do I will do it for him. I have my prayers and the people here prayers. I wish I was a better owner and made him eat crickets more then the super worms he liked. Am going to get to do a few more things for him.
I appreciate everyone here and the support.

I had a question if he won't eat bugs would turkey baby food work. What the vet mentioned but can't find only turkey. Only turkey with gravy and herps?

I am not sure on the turkey thing, but he is a trooper. I respect you so much for putting forth the money and time for him.

It's cool the turkey baby food was recommended by the vet that I can't find. I did but gravy and herbs didn't think was right to use. He's my little trooper I have faith in him til his time comes or I make that choice to end suffering because I want to avoid any pain he's could be feeling. Thank you for your respect means a lot. I have as much time for him as I can provide and money well if I have to eat ramen noodles to help him. Have no problem with that. I have had some mean chams over the years. This guy is the only one that would let me bond with him. The others well I tried and got some nice abrasive teeth marks. I hope you the best with your little one. Kills me to see and hear about them not feeling good.

Hi Male, how's he doing? I'm happy to tell you that my Sheldon looks alot better, got a nice and sturdy grip and well coordinated :) Are you free ranging his food or cup feeding?

You're doing a great job and hat off cause all the time, money and effort you are giving him! Don't blame yourself, just keep it up. Here's tones of people who knows the pain you're feeling. PM me if you got any questions and I'll do my best to help :)

Great! I am so happy to hear your little trooper is getting on the right track. My boy thought he was getting better but hate to say it nothing has changed. He had a very runny stool and urates I can't explain on a potho leaf. I been giving the liquid calcium with d3 twice daily as vets orders. He opens mouth when I get hand near him so I use a dropper to give water that way. Misting isn't doing any good think he breaths it in idk.
Am going to try a make a vet visit again. His behavior has gotten worse he sleeps with mouth open slightly. Hasn't eaten anything since I started them topic. Rejects superworm but got a cricket to crawl in his mouth.
I really need advice with what I can feed him. I been giving water but looks dehydrated. He hasn't eat anything tho.
He fell again today but happen when I was misting. Very overwhelming and my female has a bulge under one eye. I clean cage up but still bulge. That and stopped eating crickets. So am thinking even being small eggs are the issue. Just in case getting a tunnel ready. My female veiled just layed infertiled eggs almost 40 of them. She's doing great and think I replaced calcium well after. That was her first clutch since I had her. Would it be fine to feed every other day with a 13-14 month old veiled female. I had a female veiled that died last year 10-11 years old time I had her that one with being a inch nose to vent when I got her.
So with it hard to get over that death I replaced her last year. My judgement got reversed because I thought never to get another after her and I did. Helped me get over my lily I was in school when I had her. I had hard times in school and high school and always talked to my lily was a sweetheart. I can't even grab my current one she's a screamer unless I have food lol a roach.
With male panthers being costly even the females. I am 100% not getting anymore panthers my experience has been bad with them. Am getting older now 25 and I know a lot about chameleons. Learned about them over the past ten years still have the books I had when I first started with lily.
To end this before I go on and on. Am prepared for the worsed with my boy and if he gos I have have self control that I did more then most would. So lily may meet my boy soon or later.
Am losing hope with him and been holding him everyday since this happen. Talking to him and prayers hopeing that gods hands will save him. Even ask god to take whatever he needs from me. He will be missed badly. I guessed am this way because I have lost a lot of life's so no disrespect. Only human and gets harder to deal with this type of pain. To quote I met disrespect so I don't get bashed by any trolls or anything like that. I met what I said every word if you don't believe it then keep it to yourself. Am hear just looking for advice and posting my replies being overwhelmed and compassionate about reptiles that I let into my life.
I am glad that there are nice passionate people here and graceful for that and advice given. Even with my sob bs but its just how I feel and hard to deal with this on my own. Posting my true feelings helps in a way.

I'm so sorry to hear that he's not getting better Male :( Pothos catch alot of water on the leafs, do you think the poop could have been laying in some water and in that way get "runny"?

How much of the liquid d3 calcium are giving him each time? I was told to give Sheldon 0,03ml ONCE a day, although he's ~6 months old. I'm not a vet but I would say that you could give him some plane liquid calcium? Talk to your vet before you start this/if you start this. If he got a lack of d3/calcium he will also need calcium, not just the d3 vit. Too much vitD3 could also damage the kidneys. So he probalby needs calcium, alot of it! Giving d3 twice a day seems too much imo. But once again, I'm not a vet, I'm just sharing my experience.

Does he react if you are free ranging the food or is he just ignoring it? I found this during a short period. When I went from free ranging flies to cup feeding crickets it was all ok, but suddenly Sheldon stoped care for the crickets in the cup. Even when I held the cup into his face he barley cared for it. But if I picked them out and puted them on the leaves so they could run around abit he went all nuts for it and scarfed it down.

I'm sorry I have no experience in females so I can't help you on that part. Once again I wish you both good luck and hope he will get better :)

When I noticed the runny stool everything was dry and haven't misted yet. The liquid calcium with d3 just 0.1cc's twice daily. He's ignoring everything crickets superworms and a male Dubia roach that I just like crawl around the top area.
It's cool the females are ok. Just the bulge concerned me under the eye and doesn't look like any shedding with the panthers. Veiled has started a shed after the egg laying.
My boy is really rejecting everything even water. I been doing everything oral even with water by mouth and pushes tougue out and water pours from mouth. I been keeping him at the top area for UVB and heat and when I hold him for treatment feels cold even with lights being on for three hours.
I haven't used the turkey baby food because I couldn't find it and have no faith in it. I went out today and got a flukers repta boost and gave what directions said. It says for energy but will it help with not eating reptiles that need protein like crickets and roaches.
Other then this product am out of options with what I know. Speak to vet and see what they say is next to do. I have read that some chams Mainly veileds had almost gained a full recovery from mbd. It's been overwhelming the past few days won't open mouth having to use the dripper end to open mouth and add few drops of what am using. Baytril if repta boost works I can start using that I think but need more info from vet with using it and him not eating.
My main concern is getting weight back on him very skinny and showing a black color tint where tail begins.
I figured it would get worse before it gets better but worse then I thought. I haven't gave up yet and honestly can't. Something strange is going on because he has no balance and back legs are are deformed and not working right. Like the elbows hurt to move or are broke.
Pass all this on to my vet and see what she says. I just can't believe she has seen worse cases and those chams didn't make it.

I've been reading through this distressing thread, and hope everybody's little friends improve. I can not see any photos though -- I am signed in, but do not see any photo links. Any help is appreciated.

Stay strong!!

I feel ya Male. Our Veiled cham Google, is in a bad way with the MBD too. It is truly heartbreaking, and very frusterating!! Im scared every am when I wake up that Im gonna walk over to his cage and find he has past. But I get up each am, take a deep breath walk over and get positive!!! I have cried each day this week, by the end of the day Im so tiered and I just break. But Iam happy to get up the next day and do it all over again. Whatever it takes!! So stay strong and keep on keepin on =) The one thing that is for sure is that recovery can take a long time, and may never be a full recovery. Im sure your little guy loves you for being a a loving owner!!

I Feel ya also one of the first things i do after i wake up in the morning. I Think about my boy when am not home and actually get emotional with my thoughts. I understand completely what you mean and wish you prayers for your little one. it really sucks and never know what he could be feeling. thats the thing that bothers me the most. Best regards

Hi Everyone,
I had a question thats been puzzling me. I give repta boost and liquid calcium. after he hisses opens mouth and hisses i should say. nasal holes somethings push out what i given and mouth gets mucus like. I been keeping him by himself in a closed room for not being disturbed. He has stooled and looked like the repta boost and pink urates so his body must be grabbing the calcium for repairs. The rest of stool was brown and didn't smell at all. just a update and by his sad eyes i feel hes not feeling good. I took him to the vet again yesterday for injections but not showing any improvements. i am doing everything i can for him.

Are you putting the food far back in his mouth?
That is where it should go to prevent choking or breathing food in.
With injections by his vet and your care at home you are doing everything you can.

Yes putting the repta-boost and liquid calcium behind the tougue i figure is the tip. Thank you i been doing everything i can but think his time has come since yesterday his eyes sunken in a bit and black under the eyes.
food hasn't eat anything over two weeks now. crickets superworms nothing just what i give by mouth. then hisses mucus it around mouth. hes gotten worse and at this point hardy keeping anything down even water.
hes been sleeping most of the day and doing weird things with his eyes where you see blank then the brown eye ball.
his stools been very strange yellowish brown like the mix from reptaboost tan. no urates with what i seen. thinking hes helpless at this point.

Questions, he seems very dehydrated and won't open his mouth. I went to give the liquid calcium and his vent dripped a lot with a small odor discolored water. After giving him this he layed in my hand with eyes been doing this a lot.
His eye ball doesn't seem straight like the eye lid is covering it half way. I been misting a lot and trying to give water drops by mouth. He's rejecting everything now but with meds his mouth gets mucus like and hisses and opens mouth a bit. At this point I am going to look at him tomorrow. If I really feel in my heart I can't get him better. I will have vet put him down when soon as vet gets him in there.
With this said I know I been kind of a broken record but its my heart and emotions talking with most of my posts on this topic. To some having a pet that's a year old and doesn't make it a big deal but his or her passing. With me it's going to hurt and break me for a while from when I know for sure he's gone. With how I feel right now so emotional and hurt. I would think long and hard about getting another boy. Would really want to but with there cost I couldn't do it. I just got lucky to get him but I failed him in some way. I was always told females are a bit tougher then the males but my female is aggressive and eating crickets like there going out of style.
I say this because I lost hope with the way he looks and to me like 15% alive. That and I don't think he could ever use his tougue again to eat on his own.

I appreciate all the advice from you guys was great to have a place to turn to when all hope was gone at the time. I wanted to thank carol for noticing his legs it was her eye that got my boy some help.
Best regards to everyone and there chams and wish this never happens to any of you. Long live happy lives to all your chams. Time to move on or keep trying... Take care
