Hi, its my first time trying to breed crickets and I'm having problems with male crickets kept dying off... And i'm left with only female crickets now.. Does any of you have the same problem too? I started off with about 30 crickets.

Most major cricket farms use larger quantities of crickets to try and get colonies going.

Difficulties in breeding crickets is definitely one reason to try a colony of roaches instead. :) I know when I factored out how much time I'd spend caring for the crickets, raising them up, feeding them vs just buying 1,000 every month, it was cheaper (and easier) for me to just get the bulk quantities.

Roaches are even easier to keep and breed than crickets!

I've noticed in my breeding colonies the males tend to die off before the females and I'm going through my 4th cycle of crickets now and it's seemed to be the case every time

I just found an adult male cricket outside and has put it in together with the females. Now i have 1 male to about 10 females~ do you think the females will all lay eggs? :D

Have you done any research on incubating cricket eggs? What substrate to put in to have them lay?

yep. I've put organic soil in a container covered with mesh screen for them to lay eggs. I also bought exo terra heat wave to incubate those eggs. Just wondering if I need to get more males for the females or I just need 1 will do?

Wow... the female crickets are really fierce.. I just saw them biting and draging the only male cricket.. Probably because its a little smaller than most of them.. Now its dead.. :(

I found if you have seprate colonies the males will last longer. Its actually not the females killing them its the other males fighting each other.
This is only a theory of coruse but since I've been seperating my colonies i have had a major decrease in die off. Just a thought
