You do not need the entire tail just where it connects to the body and this looks great. You do have a male, how ever I think the age is off. Looks to be more in the 3-4 month range IMO
All chameleons are different but the picture with him on your hand looks to be 3-4 months just based of length. Some will grow slower than others. My question for you, how many crickets is he normally eating during the day. The more he eats, the faster he will grow so make sure you are not limiting the amount of food he can have. Also, on the silkworms, they were too large if he couldn't get them down. This could be another issue why he isn't growing because his feeders might be too big and he doesn't enjoy eating things that are that large.
