hey I have a male veiled, about 10 months old. about 12 inches from nose to tail. his names rocky. he has been living in a 65 gallon flexarium since i got him when he was a baby. i recently upgraded his cage to the bigger 100 gallon flexarium. filled it with plants and vines. hes got a 100 watt bulb in there. its been a week since moving him and he always has a dark colour, even while hes basking. and every now and then will climb down to the bottom of his cage then come back up. his eating habits are fine. i mist as often as i can, but have recently ordered online the herbmist auto mister so that he can get misted a lot more than usual. his crest thing on his head is getting a bit pale and i know this is due to dehydration and have worked on fixing this. syringing water directly into his mouth and giving him showers every other day. im just worried bout his dark complexion. is he just stressed still cos of his new home? or do i need a warmer bulb in there? im in canada right now and its starting to get cold outside, but with the temperature in the house being fine i wouldnt think that be the problem. any help would be great.

PS. i uploaded a pic of rockys new home and a pic of rocky himself.

when he was smaller he was always fine. he only started getting dark about 2 weeks ago when he was still in his old home and figured he was outgrowing it and needed more space. hes fine when hes out of the cage. goes back to a nice green.

yea mine does the same thing, mine is much greener in his cage than yours, but he is a strange cham. when he is up top he is a dark green with brown stripes when on the bottom he dramatically lightens up and his stripes go to a yellow with green spots. it is a basking thing im sure. when i pull him out of his cage he fires up and turns that normall stressed colour, but when he calms down he is beautiful. he is most stunning while sleeping.

oh yeh when hes asleep its a nice calm green, like the female one i have. so do you think its just an adjusting to his new home thing? the hydration problem will fix with my new automatic mister (very excited for that). do you think i need to get a warmer bulb? was thinking 150 watts?

well i had the same cage as you and it was very dark inside and it seemed... like he had to stay dark to absorb the light better. now that i have moved him to an aluminum screen cage it is much brighter and he also has lightened up. be carefull getting a stronger light because it will melt the screen on your cage. i use a 100 watt uvb and a regular 100 watt repti-glo just for extra lighting.

UV is at the top, u cant see it cos of the angle of the pic. do you think that needs to be replaced? its been 4 months since replacing it?

could you recommend the right type of UV bulb i could put in there? i forgot the specs of the one i have in there cos i dont have the box for it any more.

well a lot of guys here use the repi-sun 5.0. i use the Supper B 100 watt. my cam has had one sice day one and has the strongest grip of any reptile i've ever owned. so that indicates his bone structure is very strong.

woah i had no idea you could do that so if i got one of those bulbs i would only need the one lamp?
