Looks okay but maybe a little dehydrated. Can't say what age. Make sure you mist cage for 2 minutes at LEAST twice a day so he can drink

I mist him until he drinks two to three times a day and today I've given him his first hornworm , he's the first chameleon I got and he seems to be doing well.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Male Veiled Chameleon
  • Handling - I only take him out once or twice a week, usually when he wants to to get natural UV rays
  • Feeding - I feed him crickets gut loaded with zucchini, carrots, or asparagus, usually 6-7. Recently I've been feeding him hornworms and he seems to enjoy them.
  • Supplements - Calcium without D3 dusted lightly every feeding, Calium with D3 once a week, and Herptivite once or twice a month.
  • Watering - I mist him with a spray bottle 2-3 times a day for 5-6 minutes each session or until he drinks water.
  • Fecal Description - Poop seems to be brown, urates from today were a bit yellow, which is why I misted him for longer.
  • History - None

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Screen cage that is about 24x12x26
  • Lighting - Linear 24" 5.0 Reptisun UVB and a Repti Bask 100w bulb
  • Temperature - The temp for the basking spot is about 80 f, while the cool part is in the low 70s
  • Humidity - I use a hydrometer which says the humidity is 65-70, and I kept the humidity by live plants and long misting sessions
  • Plants - I have a hibiscus plant and a star jasmine plant in his cage
  • Placement - My cage is on a desk in the living room, there is a fan but it is turned off mostly.
  • Location - My location is in San Diego, California, usually has temperatures in the mid 70's

Current Problem - I just want to know if he's doing healthy, and has a good temporary set up

All tips are greatly appreciated :), he's one of my two chameleons that I am taking care of to have a great life, and I'm intrested in breeding them later on.

Cage will need to be 24 x 24 x 48" for adult veiled. Should remove the substrate, although it looks nice it can easily be ingested by your cham. Also makes quick clean ups a lot easier.

As far as age, once they become adults, it is hard to say. I mean he is atleast a year plus. There is no way to really tell unless you had him from a baby or know how old he was from the person you got him from. Seeing he is an adult, I certainly would look into getting a larger cage. That is pretty small for an adult Veild chameleon.

Where we got him he was considered a juvenile, so maybe he was in the range of 4-5 months, I've had him for about 2 months and I am getting a bigger cage by the end of May. Thanks for the help!

He doesn't.

Why post something if you have no reason to back your comment.? It is great you are trying to be helpful, but posting things that have no merit can confuse people.

Doesn't his eye look a little sunken? Or is that just shadow?

I think it's just a shadow, when I come home I'll give him a 3-4 minute mist or feed a few hornworms, I haven't seen his urates today either .
