Male veiled trying to dig ?

Every time I hear 100Watt bulb and Exoterra together I feel terribly sad. That combined with part yellow/part watery gray goop for a fecal description SCREAMS dehydration. Not to mention night bulb. What kind of thermometer is a very good question and was not answered as far as I can see. If someone's ambient temp is in the low to mid 70's I see no reason to use more than a 25-40W bulb on an Exoterra. I am suprised there is no URI involved since he has not been cooked. Are his eyes sunken? Can we see pictures? No one here is being rude-just trying to help the chameleon.

The thing that is sad is everyone has explained what the issue most likely is and she does not want to except that the setup is not correct. I feel very sorry for this lizard and i hope they listen. If not i believe he wont be around too much longer.

Chams need a cooling down period at night - unless his surroundings get down into the low 50's at night, lose the nightlight.

Beneficial UVB's are blocked by the glass in your window. He could also actually get too hot.

Urates are supposed to be white, yellow can be an indication of dehydration (hard to imagine if his humidity levels are at 80%, which isn't good either if it's all the time).

I will get a new thermometer, but the temp has never exceeded 90 degrees its always in the 80s and my thermometer works i have tested it out. I dont leave the window down ever when i have him in the windowsill so unless screen blocks uvb he is cool. He doesnt gape he just acts a little weird sometimes and he paces around, so i would say hes getting tired of his cage.He is not pale i make sure he always has water so hes not dehydrated.HMMMM

okay first of all - i never once said i don't accept that the set up is wrong.
I KNOW HE NEEDS A SCREEN CAGE - I'VE ALREADY SAID WE'RE WORKING ON THE NEW ONE.

and to be honest, he's not even in his cage the majority of the time. during the day he's out and about in the window sill (which is misted frequently).. and at night his lights are off because it's 75 degrees in our place.

no his eyes are not sunken in.
he's not pale.
his poo is not "watery" but it is wet little pellets that are grey, and then a string white glob (i'm assuming this is the urate)

can people PLEASE stop being so rude and snooty?

we're just looking for advice. and if you truly cared about our chameleon you'd actually help instead of bitching me out for not using punctuation (when my boyfriend gets concerned and asks questions) or for supposedly "not being able to accept that our cage is wrong".

ps.. yeah his cage is usally 80 - 85. idk why i said 90-95. haha.

i honestly don't think he's dehydrated.. butttt maybe.

i just need him out of that cage asap. I HATE IT.

and i would post pictures, but for some reason, my camera's memory card decided to disappear. but here's the most recent ones.. like a month or so ago.. which i know isn't very helpful.. ha.

Are you building a cage from scratch? Or buying one that is already made. Is he between 6 and 12 months old? If you need help in building one, do a search on the forum. Some of the members have built their own and it might help if you're in the planning stages.

We see a lot of set-up issues with new keepers because they get their initial guidance from pet stores. Some of us can be quite over zealous in helping correct the problem. But I assure you it's the chameleon they are thinking of first.

From how you describe the fecies, it sounds normal. White urates are excellent. Yellow and orange would not be. The "pellets" sound normal. Even a little moisture with them sounds normal for a well hydrated chameleon. If his eyes are nice and round and out from his casque fully, then that would be good.

Take it easy and let us know if you have any questions. WE ARE HERE TO HELP. :)

Hi Raoul, set up a UVB light for him while he's in the window so he can get UVB also. I would suspend a light fixture such as a workshop light and put in a couple of Reptisun 5.0 tubes just over his window basking spot.

The reason I say this is because if his only UV is in his enclosure yet he spends most of his time near the closed window, then he is missing out on beneficial UVB. You don't want him to end up looking like this:

Can I just ask - are you sure it's a male? I know you said it had spurs, but whilst that is a good guide, it's not definitive. I had what we thought was a male (spurs, male markings etc) but turned out it was a female. Just putting the option out there........

Emma, in RaoulDuke's case, I would err on the side of overheating than a hermaphrodite chameleon.

The latter is a rare case, and unfortunately, your chameleon was one.
