Man mauled by bear ~ Switzerland

A man hangs in the jaws of a bear, seemingly about to endure a most horrendous death by being ripped apart by massive jaws and razor-sharp claws.
But in the end it was the bear who ended up fighting for his life - shot with a police bullet in order to save the man's life.......

Another reminder that just because they are contained doesn't mean they are tame!
Hopefully the bear and the guy will both recover.

Did you read this part: "Police and zoo officials say there has been an outpouring of public sympathy - for the bear.

Bouquets of flowers and pots of honey have been placed outside his enclosure. "

I felt bad for the bear also. I guess no one cares about the guy. Do bears really eat pots of honey?

what a shame the bear was shot !!! the man shouldnt have been in the bears incloser. you cant blame the bear for that.:mad:

I agree totally with you,but i also read that the man suffers from a mental illness,so i guess he was having some kinda episode and just jumped in.....i hear that the bear is in a worse state than the man.

Kind of creepy for me... Going to Switzerland in January. :) Anyone been there before? I am flying into Zurich, but traveling around once there.

I've been to Switzerland twice and have relatives in Geneva and didn't see any bears. I did however go to a wildlife rescue centre place which was sort of open to the public. It will most likely be very cold in January and you could try Winter Sports (I've never tried that before but I believe there is plenty opportunity to do so if you wish). Is this your plan if your going in January?

Both times I went I also travelled over border into France and if your stay is long enough it might be worth doing that, however in January some of the things I would have suggested would not be possible or worthwhile.

Some places I visited included the medieval town of Gruyeres, in mountains where the cheese of Gruyere comes from. It's worth trying the fondue and meringues. There is also a Museum of HR Geiger, which strangely fits in quite well in that town. There is a castle but the length of our stay was limited and we ran out of time to see it.

Geneva is a very nice city and you can wonder around it seeing sites. The Old Town is an obvious place to have a wonder round but pretty much the entire city looks nice from what I've seen.

I didn't stay for a particularly long time either time I visited so my experiences are limited. I think you will enjoy your stay there.

Syn, I've never been out of the country either, so I'm super excited. :)

HairyScaryMark, yes I'm going in the beginning of January. We're flying into Zurich and traveling around from there. I don't think we're going to go over to France or any of the other surrounding countries. My boyfriend (who I'm going with) wants to try snowboarding there, but I'm pretty sure my health insurance doesn't transfer over, and even though they have universal health care there, I'm not too sure I want to find out how breaking an arm would pan out. Haha.

We're not so concerned about the weather.. Being from Arizona, we're excited for any rain/snow/fog/coldness that we can get. :)

So far we don't have any activities planned... We're thinking that just the beautiful nature and architecture there will be plenty interesting enough for us.

If you want rain/snow/fog/coldness you can come here to Montana, I can promise you the cold & snow. Your insurance will cover you even if you would think you are in an other country. Canada is quite close so you could even hit another country.

Now about the bear, if the man sat on the fence for 20 minutes why didn't someone get him off it?? Why didn't the cops just stun him, why shoot the poor bear? He did nothing wrong.

I have lived in Oregon before, so to an extent, I know what cold feels like. From what I hear, Montana isn't the place to be if you're looking for something to do/somewhere to go. Haha. :)

I am on AHCCCS for my health insurance, Arizona's health care for those with a certain (low) income level, and it doesn't cover any services provided to members who are outside of the U.S. Sad, but oh well.
