I just wanted to share my story of what I did over the summer.
I visited my old job at a local pet store back in June, and I saw that they were selling kittens that had been brought in from the animal shelter. My boyfriend and I had been talking about getting a cat together for a long time now, but our apartment doesn't allow pets that aren't kept in cages or tanks. I tried not to pay attention to them but they were SO CUTE. I finally gave in and immediately fell in love with one.
This is the first time that I met her. I took this picture to send to my boyfriend. We always said that if we got a cat, it would be a Russian Blue. Obviously, she isn't a RB, but she's close enough.
I talked to my old manager, who told me that two girls found her outside underneath a dumpster. She had been there for three weeks and had gone through two rounds of other kittens that were brought down from the shelter. Nobody else wanted her or even considered getting her. I told my boyfriend about her and showed him the picture, and the next day we went down to see her.
Like me, he was smitten.
So we went to see her the day after that...
And the day after that...
Each day we expected her to be gone, but when she was still there on the third day, we decided to ask our landlord to let us have her. It didn't go well. She gave a firm 'no' and said that it wasn't her policy, it was the owners of the complex. Three more days went by, all the while I tried to think of a way that we could get her. I ended up going with the most obvious one of inviting the property owner to come over to meet with us so that we could ask him. He was an incredibly nice guy. We talked to him for about thirty minutes, I showed him the chameleons and geckos and frogs, all of which he was fascinated with, and he agreed to let us have her. There were so rules and a deposit to be paid, but nothing unexpected. We went and got her that same day.
Unfortunately, I went on vacation with my dad the day after we got her, but my boyfriend would send me updates of what they were up to.
And when I got back, it was more of the same with me.
We decided to call her Marvel after the superhero. This particular superhero has a very strong affinity for straws and jumping out at people.
Last night she helped me set up a new gecko home.
Here is her alternate ego- Corporate Cat.
