May get a parson's

That's exactly why I wanted to jump on it hah. I never see any yellow lips, just the orange eyes

Research the Parsonii phases a bit. There are a lot of Parsonii phases to choose from. There is more than a couple types of the White Lipped phase, Yellow Lip, Cristifers, Yellow Giants, Green Giants and we are talking about Madagascar meaning possibly other yet to be discovered phases of Parsonii.

Mellers Chameleons are great however they have not got the variation of coloration or body type that Calumma parsonii spp. has.

Here is a thread about the topic.

Hey Thanks, I knew there were a few locales, but the only available ones seemed to be the orange eye(or what most of us think to be the OE?). Maybe im wrong? I didn't know how many different kinds there were. I'd rather start with a CB though. I just love them all and the yellows look pretty awesome. A huge dinosaur-like appearance, can't seem to go wrong there.

The first two are photos of my boy Padre that passed away during surgery to repair a hole in the back of his throat most likely cause by a feeder leg scratching or biting him that became infected.

This was my beautiful Orange Eye girl Hera. She passed two week after surgery to remove eggs that she could not pass.

This is me with my friends Yellow lip. Mike, my friend passed away from cancer last year.

This was Cooper. He was my orange eye that passed with a hole in the back of his throat but the hole could not be found until the autopsy.

These were my parsons climate control rooms.

Wow thank you jan! they are all amazing. I'm sorry you lost them :(

Would you say there is much of a size difference in their locales?

Yes, my friend that passed also had Green Giants and the were bigger than any of the parson's I've seen. The YL also seem to get bigger than most OE but one member that use to post here had an. OE that weighed over 900 grams.

@JoeDigiorgio They are amazing too! some of the few chameleons to rival panthers in colors IMO. I'm not going to lie though... I just want a huge lizard, if the gf wouldn't kill me I'd have a tegu in the living room . She likes chameleons though and so do I so we compromise by sticking to them for the time being.

So it looks like I'll be getting a YL... hoping for a male, but too soon to tell. I have a dragonstrand atrium for him/her while he's young with a cabinet for a deep 2 foot bioactive substrate bed and hydroponic Hydroballs layer for plant roots. From there I'll do a free range if I can maintain humidity or just build something larger :). My one concern is my t5s giving off too much heat. Considering t8s, but the light from the T5s is so nice for plants and viewing. Guess I'll see when I have it running

I'm pretty sure t5 are more efficient and therefore less heat emission, or am I backwards. Man I used to be so good with lighting.

In my experience the T5 fixtures like Arcadia put off wayyyy more heat that a T8 fixture. It's not so much the heat coming down into the cage as the heat the fixture puts off. For me it's a concern because I have a room that I try to keep temps down in the summer and those fixtures will increase the temps in that room.

I would suggest a set up without substrate, especially with a young Parson's chameleon. It just adds another variable that can cause problems, even uncovered soul in pots can be an issue. I see my Calumma eating soil and I can tell you it has caused problems for me.

Well I'll take your word for it, I've always used substrate for my panthers and other reptiles without issue, but I can just slip the bottom panel on then, I'd rather be safe. Have you had impaction problems from it?

Nothing that hasn't worked it's way out. But they do eat substrate and they can and will go off their food if the eat something they shouldn't. Sometime dirt can get lodged along their gum line and it can cause mouth issues. I wouldn't suggest it at least for a baby but everyone is free to do as they like. :)
